No, im not tethering. Im using a usb dongle.
Now, it's loading really slow on all sites, even YouTube. It's just shows a blank white screen and the circular loading animation shows in the web browser window for several minutes. However, when I downloaded a programme from iPlayer it was downloading at speed of about 370 kb/s, but for some reason for web browsing, it's very slow. |

Today, it's going fast now when web browsing. So it's just temperamental. Last month, I used one of these EE SIMs in the phone and the same problem happens, so the problem doesn't just happen when using a dongle. |

For all intents and purposes, a USB dongle is the same as tethering as far as the network is concerned.

Well for a start you'll not be getting blistering speeds on 3G, second it is a handset only sim, thirdly it could be a local issue. Fourthly you must be close to the end of the trial surely?

The End...
And so it came to pass that Dan & Phil sent their last random text on Friday 17th March in the year of our Lord 2015 that they would be doing no more.....or would they?! The Promotion started in November 2014 and has ran for 6 months alas I never got a phone call from them (well at least I can be grateful for that!). While many may have opted out of the jolly japes texts I stuck with it. I don't know why?! Clearly their contract has ended and they promise no more...perhaps! So who knows maybe come November EE will do another similar promotion with them? While some had been predicting the EE promotion would offer amazing unheard of bundles me and a few others said it would be the standard tariffs (which it was). The freebies were good while they lasted. So long and thanks for all the data

I got the call (multiple times actually) and said I'd only sign up if they offered a decent amount of data, as in 20, 50 or 100GB.
Clearly EE (or its acting agent) hoped to sign up a lot of people off the back of the 'freebie'. Maybe they did. The SIMs I activated late never got the £15 pack added so I could make calls/text, and I stopped getting texts on the inactive ones - and haven't been back to see if they've had anything since. |

I wish somebody would do bigger data packages, when you think about it Three has been doing 15GB mobile broadband for over 5 years now, yet people's usage has increased.
I do see some EE plans but they are very expensive in comparison. Soon I'm sadly doing to have to work away from home a little bit each week and I would like a 4G mifi I can use to stream Twitch or watch Youtube, iPlayer, 4OD etc I'd estimate my usage to be about 20-30GB a month, I was expecting with 4G we would start seeing packages for around this for £20-£25 or so, sadly it just hasn't happened. |

EE is pretty good on mobile broadband plans, and the EE Home tariff. On MBB, on a 12 month tariff, you can get 50GB a month. On 30 days, you can get 25GB.
On PAYG you get 4GB and SIM only you get 5GB. It's mad. (Yes, you can get more on a handset tariff, but it's stupidly expensive) |

(Yes, you can get more on a handset tariff, but it's stupidly expensive) I see an EE 25GB for £30, I guess that's ok, when I end up working away I might get that plan. I guess I could just get the Three 15GB mifi as I am not bothered about the speed and could probably try and use hotel wifi as much as possible. Another thing that annoys me is I can buy a 15GB Mifi, and I have a phone plan with unlimited data, that'll be going to 4GB of tethering at some point. Yet I can't pay £16 on top of my phone tarriff or anything near to add wifi hotspot equivalent to an extra 15GB, so I'll have to carry round 2 devices and keep them both charged and switch between them, keep an eye on the allowance on both. It's a shame Three don't let customers make more use of hotspot add-ons for when they want some extra mobile broadband. I want to pay, it's just they won't sell extra data in that way. |

It's also silly that once you hit 15GB on a contract MBB plan, you can't add more at all. On PAYG you can just add more data, but contract? Sorry, you have to wait until the next month.
(Or at least that was the case a year or so ago, so maybe Three has fixed that). I too am surprised Three wouldn't allow you to add more than just 1GB for tethering in any given month. If someone is willing to pay, why not take their money? (Not that I'd consider each extra 1GB being good value at £5 a time, so they'd probably need to discount it). |

Three seem to be copying EE's bad points, such as the lack of top up data allowance on SIM only contracts. |

I think Three has changed things, so you can use more data (and pay a fortune - 10p a MB isn't it?) but when my parents had a MBB contract with 15GB they hit a cap and Three could not lift it, as 15GB was the maximum. There was no run on option at all.
Either way, it's silly. What choice: No more data at all, or paying 10p a MB! Meanwhile PAYG users are fine, they can just buy whatever they want and NEVER suffer bill shock. |

Three do seem happy to charge a lot for MBB accounts, and then offering some pretty good discounts if you ask. Often they seem to use these as a deal sweetener on a new phone/upgrade.
Example; buy a new phone for 24 months and they'll give you a 250/500/1000MB SIM for your old phone/tablet for half price. My parents get 500MB a month for £2.50, used in iPad air. Maybe they deliberately price high for this purpose, like furniture shops always doing sales on ridiculously inflated retail prices. |
