Obviously the next year is going to be very exciting on Neighbours, with cast members returning left, right and centre...but...does anyone else think that this might be the last anniversary that Neighbours gets to celebrate?

In just over a year's time the Channel 5 contract will expire. Based on how much ratings have fallen whilst the show has been on Channel 5, I doubt the contract will be renewed for the £300m it was signed for in 2007, and ratings do not appear to be too strong on Eleven to encourage Network Ten to increase spending on the show.

Does anyone feel that these characters are returning as it will be their last chance to before the show goes? I don't want that to happen, but I get the feeling that there's something more behind big names like Anne Charleston and Delta Goodrem reprising their roles.

I cant say I agree with this. The soap is not as popular as it once was. However it is in a much better place now than 5 years ago. Back then I had fears the show would not see it's 30th anniversary.

Ratings are ok, both here and in Aus. I think most fans that have stuck with show during the rough patches seem to agree. This year has been a good year for the show.

It won't be axed. It does well all over the world not just Great Britain and Australia. The money they get from other countries keeps the show going. Even though H and A is much popular in Aus, Neighbours is much popular in England and the rest of the world. It still has a loyal fan base and if put on a main channel like ITV and shown in the Evening slot the show could rate well. The show rates better at 5:30 rather than 1:45.

Yeah this has been my worry for a while too! Not necessarily the show being axed, but Fives inevitably lower investment resulting in further budget cuts for the show.

The locations are already very limited, with the characters being confined to Ramsay Street, Lassiters and the garage.

It wouldn't be so bad if the sets were more diverse, but since we only ever see the same angles of one room of each house, most of which have been shrunk, it just feels so claustrophobic. I'm sick to death of that bloody kitchen of no 32 being the only thing we see... why having that meant completely sacrificing the living room/ hallway I'll never know.

The entire Lassiters Complex is a real eyesore too, inside and out, the whole thing needs tearing down and starting again, ideally to the same standard it was pre- 2004.

So it would be a shame for the show to lose even more money, resulting in less chances of the sets and lighting being improved and even MORE limited location stuff.

Nobody watches Neighbours in Australia anymore. If it wasn't for the cash that comes from The U.K it would of been put out to pasture years ago.

I don't think it's getting the axe anytime soon. While the ratings are down in Australia (and the same can be said for Home and Away as yesterday's episode rated 799K - low for a show that used to be rate over a million daily), it's still doing very strongly in the UK. The show gets nearly two million viewers to Channel 5 every day - quite a feat considering that some primetime programmes on 5 don't get anywhere near those ratings and is an integral part of the Channel 5 schedule. According to BARB, the twice daily episodes of Neighbours all rank amongst their Top 30 most watched programmes and it frequently makes the Top 10. If the ratings stay steady on Five, then I don't see the show going anywhere anytime soon.

That figure for H&A isn't a shock. As i'm sure you well know at this time of year in Australia anything rating over a million is a miracle. Ratings won't go back up till February.

What was Neighbours ratings yesterday? 226,000.

(Please don't reply about some tosh about it not being on a main channel)

What I meant to say was that you cannot compare the ratings the show get today with those from five-ten years ago.

The Americans have "Neighbours" on Hulu. It is not just from our money but over 50 countries.
