EE: Was Jane ever close to the twins?

I'm really confused - I recall her being a motherly figure to Lucy and Peter but her reaction to Lucy's death was quite underwhelming, as if she was just a friend of Ian's, and how she hasn't really had much interaction with Peter since she returned?

Thats because Peter is in New Zeland. She did become quite close to both of them but bear in mind she was their fourth mother figure.

I meant when she returned the first time

Well, the twins didn't really have much choice in getting to know the first three.

True, but she was the one that stuck around the longest.

But it meant the twins were less welcoming of Jane at first, they did develop a bond But Iit took time. Jane was atill affected by Lucys death its just she took the role of the comforter, the one who bottles things up to look after everyone else.

Her running away to Birmingham was her way of escaping everyone so she could grieve in her own way.

Jane was the only mother the twins ever really knew. They were too young to remember Cindy or Mel and Laura wasn't around for very long and they were still very young when she was. Lucy and Jane got off to a rocky start with Lucy being a brat and refusing to accept her as Ian's partner but that didn't last long. Jane became very close to them both during her marriage to Ian and was very much their mother. I'm not sure what you mean OP? I recall her being devastated when Lucy died, she didn't really have much time to privately grieve but that was because she was busy supporting Ian. And the reason she left was because she was worried about coming between Ian and Denise and exposing Bobby to Ian's very fragile state of mind as he obviously wasn't coping. It was nothing to do with not caring enough to stick around.

I seem to remember an episode or two after Lucy died Jane breaking down in tears. She was devastated.

I seem to recall that the reason why Jane took Bobby away with her was that when Bobby tried to comfort his dad by saying 'I'm still here', Ian responded by shouting at him that he wasn't Lucy - as if he didn't count. Bobby was devastated.
