Using ARC via HDMI on A/V receiver
mints
27-11-2014
I have a Marantz nr1504 a/v receiver connected to a Sony 55w905 tv via an arc hdmi input.
The manual for the a/v does not make it clear how to get audio from the tv to work, the imanual for the tv gives no details at all.
Can anyone please advice.

Does the receiver do ARC?.

There's nothing to set or alter on the TV.

The TV Audio button on the Marantz remote should pick up the ARC audio if HDMI Control is set to ON. Or at least that is what the small note on page 9 of the manual suggests.

Quote:
“Settings required when using a TV that supports the ARC function
When using a TV that supports the ARC function, make the following settings.
•
Set “HDMI Control” (page 100) to “On””

And also double check you have plugged the cable into the correct HDMI socket on the TV.

You need to read your manual more thoroughly. If you don't already have it in electronic form from the CD Rom then try downloading the pdf version from the Marantz web site.

There's a section that details setting up the NR1504 inputs. The default physical connection for the TV Audio input is Optical. So if you didn't change that, then the Marantz is looking for sound from the Optical connection instead of the HDMI. This part of the set-up routine is called Input Assign.

Once you have that sorted, then make sure you have HDMI control set to on for both the TV and the receiver. If you're unsure what to do with the TV settings then download the full manual from the Sony web site.

Double check all your settings. Make sure the NR1504 input is cycled around to TV Audio and that should cover most of your bases.
