Last nights episode of Corrie dropped to dire levels last night. Top soap maybe, but down over 1.5m YOY. At this rate it will be be sub 7m of Xmas Day. ITV like the BBC before them seem to have stuck their head in the sand.

This year

7.03m (32.8%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 298k (1.3%) on +1 as Michelle was crushed when Steve snubbed an opportunity for them to get back together.

Last year

Corrie - 8.44m (38.0%), +1 - 392k (1.7%)

If Stuart Blackburn is to be in charge until September next year, how low will it be by then? These ratings are lower than Summer.

Is 7 million really considered as a drop?

Considering during Summer it got some higher ratings, and last year it was over 8.5m then yes it is.

Don't know how relevant this is but I never miss an episode (though many times this year I've wondered why), however I always record it from the ITV2 morning repeat (less ads to wind thru) & watch at my leisure, so I guess I for one will never show up on the ratings!! It may or may not be relevant but there are just so many more opportunities to watch the soaps than watching them as they transmit these days!!

I was about to say the same - good. I hope they get a decent producer, planning and writing team. And while they're about it, they can get rid of Fiz, Sophie and Michelle, especially the latter who they seem determined to try and make us like.

I think the viewers who have stopped watching the initial broadcast (like me) have stopped watching completely. If ITV wait too much longer to get rid of Blackburn they will never return.

He has basically shorted Corrie's life in 1 year alone by at least 2-4 years. The ratings have dropped quicker than EE did over 3 years.

......totally......What 'hat' ??

I will always watch Corrie - not a fair weather friend

Hoping that Steve will conquer his depression very soon. Good characterisation, on his part - but " Look at me Michelle" is spoiling the story. I am not even moved by her sobs/tears

Viewers seem to be tiring of all soaps at the moment, it's not unique to Coronation Street.

They have dropped slightly and it is unusual as winter is usually a strong period. ITV wont act until Corrie gets in as serious state as EE did and look at EE it's still in recovery in terms of viewing figures. EE storylines and episodes are strong but viewers who left are yet to forgive, it'd be a shame for British Soaps if ITV allow Blackburn to do the same!

In terms of, and based on, what? Do you mean Corrie 'only' has 20 years left and now it's only got 19? What does that even mean?

I mean he has allowed a mass of viewers to turn off quicker than they might do over 2-4 years.

Basically over 1m+ viewers have stopped watching in 1year, that might have been slower if Corrie wasn't so dire. He has sped up its decline.

If Corrie was better quality the drop YOY would be minimal. It was only last year it was up YOY thanks to the momentum Phil Collinson gave to Corrie over his tenure. Now it has plummeted.

Perhaps because the OP seems to have plucked the figures out of the air. Last night's episode peaked at 8 million, with a 34% plus audience share.

The Hat ruins every soap he is in charge of. Whoever thought he could run Corrie and bring it back on top has to be sadly mistaken. He has ridiculous s/ls, brings in people that just do not fit, bad actors and even worse, has his favourites that he insists on ramming down out throats whether we want to or not.

For example, the Asian family, totally OTT and boring. Michelle, Tina, Sean, Fizz and now Steph are all pushed to the forefront of each and every s/l irrespective if they should be there or not.

Michelle is the worst offender, horrible horrible character played by a very overrated "actress"

Not to mention that Corrie also generally has the highest increase in the Consolidated ratings than either EE or ED.

Fact is ALL soap ratings are down due to all the reasons that have been gone over ad nauseam on here. End of the day, Corrie is the No.1 Soap, just as it's always been and still generally brings in more viewers, 5 eps per week, than any non-soap could even dream of, hence its future is more than secure for the moment.

I've always wondered why channels don't act sooner. They can see ratings are sliding and viewers are unhappy, but wait until things get really bad before taking any action.

Do you have a source to suggest it peaked with 8m, or was that just plucked from thin air. The rating I have is from DS soap ratings article.

I imagine the bosses at ITV are doing exactly what your doing, burying your head in the sand. If your still enjoying it then fair enough, but the viewing figures suggests otherwise.

That's probably the same attitude ITV have over Corrie at present. Never mind that the drops YOY are nearing 1.5m most days, Monday was down 1.7m.

EastEnders had this problem in 2012 and 2013 and the BBC stick their heads in the sand. Look what has happened now! Even a good producer cannot increase the ratings.

How come then Corrie has dropped heavily YOY, when only last year it was up YOY?

Yes, yes you don't like Blackburn, we get it. You've spouted on about it in numerous threads over the past few months.

I don't know how many more ways I can say this to make you understand. You know very well why ALL soap ratings are dropping and will continue to do so.

The ONLY thing that is relevant to the commercial channel ITV is whether or not the advertisers are happy with Corrie's position in the ratings, and until - which will almost certainly never happen - another show can produce ratings anywhere remotely close to those of Corrie, 3 nights a week, ITV have nothing to worry about.

Ultimately, you don't have to worry yourself like this. Ratings are not your concern. Either watch it or don't. Corrie will survive irrespective for the foreseeable future.

By Corrie ' s lofty standards it's a bit of a dip normally between 8-9 million. But tbf the show seemed to be consistently steady even when poor.

Patronising or what.

I wish Corrie was better because I used to watch all the time. I'm more annoyed that its been ruined and I can't watch it without moaning at each scene. This is why I've stopped watching. I want it to be the best it a be, but currently its not.

It really is chronic. Full of idiot characters and poor acting. Dreadful storylines too. A real car-crash of a soap. We burst out laughing its so bad. Its not even 'its so bad its good' - its so bad its Crap .I bought a boxset of 1970's CS and although dated and not much happening, the acting and the dialogue really sparkle with fine set-pieces.
It seems today all that matters is box-ticking, favouritism, and keeping the deadwood " darlings" in at all cost.
A 1/3rd of this current crap cast should go, it really is that bad.Perhaps it really has had its day- especially if they are going to keep the " darlings" in it no mater what, even if there's nothing fit them to do- a job as the core team in CS is obviously a job for life.

As praise, I must say that Tony is an excellent new character. They need to keep him in the long term. I really can't think of any others.
