So basically I am getting my first iPhone this Christmas and would love advice on which one is the best for its value on prepay. Here's what I know about them.

IPhone 4S- Cheapest but I worry that it will go out of date and will stop being updated by apple.

IPhone 5C-Around €400 in Ireland.Good price, like the colours and style but not sure about the plastic part. This was what I was planning on getting but worried about the news today that Apple are stopping it being made, will that mean it wont be updated? Also have heard that it breaks easily from friends.

IPhone 5S-My ideal choice.Great quality and image but at around nearly €600 in Ireland,it's out of my budget.

IPhone 6-Way too much money and doesnt seem to be that much better than the rest.

Any advice?

Forget iPhone and get Samsung. Had an iPhone for 2 years, soon got fed up when all my mates had apps on their phones that Apple blocked.

I've always had androids (all be it not great ones)and am sick of them tbh where as I loved the whole style of my iPod touch and most of my friends have iPhones.I have had a Sony Xperia J for the last two years and it really is awful. The camera is horrendous

Not a helpful reply for someone who specifically wants an iPhone.

Does it have to be new? You might be able to get a nearly new one in good condition. My wife got a 5C which was mint. Unfortunately, I don't know what to recommend in Ireland.

Well not really but buying phones on eBay and stuff can be dodgy. That's good to hear as the 5C is the one I was thinking of getting but am worried about the rumours about Apple taking it off the market.Everything is the same between the UK and Ireland phone wise just that the pound is worth more than the euro and there are some different phone networks I think.

Apple is reportedly planning to pull the plug on the iPhone 5C next year so it may not be a good idea buying the 5C.

I thought this too. What would the implications of having one be if this happened?Would they stop updating it?

Probably. I think once they drop a product they lose interest in it. You may have problems getting it fixed also if something should happen to it or getting replacement parts. The 5s is a great phone. The fingerprint id is very handy. You might be able to get a 2nd hand one or a refurb at a good price. The 6 is by far the best phone though of the ones on your list. It's a lot faster and smoother than the others.

No, the iPhone 5C will most likely still get updates for a good few years yet, but it won't get all the latest features in an update (just like the iPhone 5S won't either as they save the best new features for the latest devices as an incentive to upgrade). They only just stopped giving updates to the iPhone 4 this year and that was released in 2010.

A quick look on eBay finds sellers like Quick Post Phones who sell used 5c's in good condition. If you can get one locked to your carrier they are even cheaper.

The iPhone 6 is worth the extra. You can buy it and not have to worry about obsolescence for the next few years.

If you can't afford it, just buy the newest model you can afford.

A couple of things to consider re iPhone 6 - the screen is larger than the 4 and 5 series models. This makes things like web browsing, games, and watching videos much more pleasant.

The battery life on the iPhone 6 is quite an improvement over the 5/5c/5s. I'm quite a heavy user and can easily get a day and half out of the phone on each charge. With my old 5, I only got a day at most.

I hope you got a good deal.

I think the 5c is a classy phone. It feels good in the hand and in no way cheap. And I have an iPhone 6 Plus!

It is a good deal as its a 32GB model included (only in yellow when I checked).

Unfortunately it doesn't help the OP who is in Ireland, so won't have a CPW nearby, nor want to have a contract with a UK network .
