On You're Fired! it was suggested that comedian Joe Lycett is involved with the background music in the boardroom.

I presumed that this was a joke, as I have never seen his name listed in the credits, nor can I find anything about him having done it online. But if it was a joke, what was the point? I didn't find it funny at all, I just thought, 'Why are they doing this?'

Was anyone else a bit confused by this?

Yeah, I figured that it was, but as I said, what was the point? Did you find it funny? I didn't. I didn't see what the joke was.

Maybe it would have helped to know who he was? As in I have no idea either, and so the video was weird.

Is he a big comedian somewhere? His appearance seemed a little awkward.

I thought it was funny. Not laugh out loud hilarious but amusing enough. The joke I think was the idea that those guys are playing the incidental music live every week.

Not everyone finds the same things funny I guess. <- nearest I can find to a shrugging smiley

He's a relative unknown on the verge of breaking through into TV. He did live at the Apollo recently, and he's been on other shows. I've seen him perform a few times lately in Manchester; he gigs a lot, honing his material.

I thought the skit was funny

I thought it was insurance. They would have filmed it in advance so they had something in the can to use if there wasn't enough good material on the night. I'm mildly surprised they chose to use it as he seemed pretty good on the night, but maybe they didn't get the material they wanted from the candidate.

I hate it that You're Fired! is a comedy show now. Obviously it will naturally be quite comedic, but the skits they do are just silly sometimes. I remember at this stage in the first series (which accompanied Series 2, as Series 1 didn't have a You're Fired! programme), there was a feature where each of the remaining candidates was analysed by a business psychologist, with commentary on how they've performed and what their likelihood is of winning. It was a lot more worth watching.

We've had a few of those this series, we had that comedian the other week and her faux pitching, we had Dara last week with the stupid, whose going to win board and this stupid thing this week. I think because of the format of the show, they need to build in an extra few minutes for additional candidates questions etc. Would of been far more impressed if Dara would have interviewed James better, finding out what he actually does for a living, something to do with bars from what I've heard, and then actually told us what his BP was, he's the only one he hasn't asked about it, so it leads me to wonder wether he didn't want to let on.

No, because I don't take either TA or YF remotely seriously.

It was slightly surreal, but there's nowt wrong with that.

It was pointless crap. Just like the whole of You're Fired these days. If Dara won't ask the contestant probing questions then what is the point? I can get better 'comedy' elsewhere.

^^ Agree it seems to have turned into a continuous "look how funny I am" sketch, along with a lot of BBC programmes like QI and Have I Got News.

I've not really bothered to watch YBF theis series as the contestants themselves don't interest me. I did see the one where the woman did that pitching sketch, I didn't really see the point. I take it there's been more like that?

I liked to watch it to see how the contestants react to what they've done or said on the show, not as some sort of comedy sketch show.

I found it comical in the light-humour kind of way in which it was presented. Not sure how anybody could actually be unsure of whether it was serious or not ...

It just cheapens the show, they get some 3rd rate comic, whose only found on BBC 3 or Channel 4 in the dark hours of the morning, probably doing the show for free, so they can get some airtime to promote their own show. They never have to known comedians doing it, probably charge the BBC to much.

Excuse you Joe Lycett is definitely not a 3rd rate comedian

It was a joke which i found the concept of funny enough but they dragged it out too long.

A lot of You're Fired is designed purely for entertainment and 'pointless' if looked at too closely.

The joke was the idea that there are people actually providing the incidental music 'live' just behind the glass door as events unfurl rather than being pre recorded.

Hardly laugh out loud funny but slightly amusing but everybody's sense of humour is different.

I hadn't come across him before, but as a matter of fact I really liked him on the show. I thought he added something to the panel that the others didn't - but then they had this stupid skit.

^^Nor me, never heard of him, but will agree he wasn't bad on the show, just wish he'd stop with all the "camp" remarks.

I wonder how far ahead the panel on YF are booked ahead? now the guy could of recorded this months before as a filler for a particularly quiet week and when its needed he gets the gig, it was mildly funny but as humour is subjective its down to the recipient.
