Toned down.

Tuesdays episode (Bar a few nice scenes from Johnny) was Carter free and tonight had no Carters in and both were the best episodes in ages.
It helps that the right (Chris Reason) knows the show in side out but there is a few storylines bubbling away with popular and well known characters that should be getting more focus. The Phil & Jane scene was one of the highlights of the year for me.
It made Phil look Human and he really did right by getting Jane to do what's best for Bobby.

Denise and Patrick are such a joy to watch. Ben & Jay are a great duo I think.

I like the Carters but I feel they are being over used and even more so then the Brannings/Mitchells ect were in such a short space of time.

Probably not wise to create a thread saying the Carters need toned down on a week when the Carters have been toned down.

I agree that they could ease up on the Carters, although this coming Christmas should be the best one for years.

I don't agree that tonight was good, I thought it dragged. Preferred Tuesday.

I actually sat through tonight's episode and never found it dragging or had to turn it over because the Carters weren't in it. Much better.

Doubt I'll be sitting through the whole episode without getting bored on Christmas Day!

I do agree with you Dan, but I found tonight's episode flat, Jane got on my nerves.

It is becoming rather unfortunate that some of the best episodes are the non-Carters episodes. That said, I really enjoyed Carter week last week.

The Carters as characters are still totally brilliant in my opinion. They just need to fix the balance, screen-time and the en-masse scenes. Johnny supporting Ben's story, Lee supporting the Lucy story - it all works well.

I agree. I also think filler episodes are so much better when they're in it as well

I love the Carters and I am undecided if they are as overused as the BRANNINGS were. A positive thing about tonights episode was that you saw families interact with other families, that's what I feel is missing from the show. Every story seems to be confined within a family.

If we call recent Carter presence level a number 10-What number would you use to describe the level of Carter use you feel would get it just about right?

The Carter fest can be nauseating, I mean it's Johnny's birthday next week, Lee's last week and Nancy's less the a couple of weeks ago, isn't that just a tad overboard when half the characters don't even get to celebrate there birthday, it's means more parties and family gatherings.

And Stans a few months ago!
I do agree it is a little excessive although weve had Tamwars birthday too.

I think Mick and Linda's joint solo scenes need to be toned down but not the Carters overall. I really enjoyed last week esp Buster, Dean, Shirley, Stan, Nancy, Lee. But I did find tonight and Tues to be rather slow without them (or the Cottons) so I must like the Carters more than I thought I did. They are all good characters and them being part of the same family doesn't bother me.
I don't think they have been more used than the Brannings or Mitchell's though.

They're a close knit unit though so it is in keeping with their characterisation

I get that but do we need to see it every week like, when others don't even get a look in there are other families on the show that could benefit from some family interaction.

Also agree with what you're saying about key characters playing big parts! if DTC wants to revive the show he needs to use the shows most loved/key characters and involve them in huge storylines, we've had a lot of new characters this year, and there can be some episodes where about 95% of the cast are ones that have joined this year and ones he has brought in, and Carter overload, and it can feel like you're watching a different show because it can effect the continuity! Characters like Kat, Ian, Carol, Dot and many more should be used a lot more! Especially Kat! Where even is she? Popping up for a few episodes, whilst her current tedious storyline plays out, then going quiet for weeks on end!

Lol, yes Tamwar, one of the shows most boring and deadwood cast members! Not to mention he's close to the Carter's anyway! what about Phil's birthday? Ian's? EVEN SHIRLEY'S?! she's a Carter aswell!

They're great when they're given the great drama and some comedic lines, but when they're all together with the balloons and inflatable instruments singing karaoke, it makes me want to vomit, as I feel it doesn't really do much for the show, as EastEnders shouldn't be cheesy, it should just get straight to the point whilst sticking it's middle finger up to the other soaps, because they say it how it is, if I'm honest!

This week they have been which is a relief. I can only tolerate linda in small doses and gone off mick due to his constant repetive scenes in the tape SL. Johnny and Stan should be fore until their exits.

Mick and linda just need seriously toning down and have a few weeks or months on the back burner. Shirley can be fore as long as she is off for a few weeks or only
On minor roles after big developments for her. The rest I don't think need toning down. More lee, Nancy, babe and Tina I say! They've been background most the year. Dean is fascinating so I'm not fussed about him being toned down... Yet

We've also had Lauren celebrate her birthday this year too just before lucy died. Peters is also going to be on screen with his drug story
