'Boys Of Summer' by Don Henley just never gets old for me. I have heard it so many times but it always sounds fresh. It is not too heavy going either so works in any location. Baker Street to me whilst OK feels like it needs to speed up a bit and the sax solo pales in comparison to the guitar solo in Goodbye To Love by the Carpenters IMO because it is all in one style.

I'd like to nominate both Foreigner's mainstream songs- Waiting For a Girl Like You and I Wanna Know What Love Is. Both fantastically powerful songs

how, how...HOW DARE YOU SPEAK OF SAINT PETER LIKE THAT!

It is the epitome of the over produced, but as a style its done perfectly. I agree too many copied it (badly) thus making it annoying. Like how everyone loved the guitar solo, until the 80s hair metal scene and shredders had 9 minute shred wank fests to the point we needed grunge to cleanse out pallet of the self indulgent masturbation.

It's one of my favourites, and I think the Foo Fighters version is also good.

I think that one song which fits into the category of music for "squares" is Bill Withers Lean on Me. Maybe its just because we used to sing it at my primary school which was a Christian school, but it strikes me as a very Christian song

This wonderful song never, ever, fails to lift me.

It's just simply sensational!

Yep, Baker Street is definitely up there as one of the all time great pop songs!

Baker Street's a great song, but not the perfect pop song for me.

Here's my submission for that crown

Sorry, but no.
The legendary Neil Sedaka's "Love Will Keep Us Together" is the most perfect pop song of all time.

Almost any single by Blondie is streets ahead of Baker Street.

If you'll pardon the pun!

Another fantastic solo is the violin solo in Ultravox Vienna

...or was it a synth?

for me probably the best violin solo in a pop song would be in slades 'cos i luv u'
