Sounds like my experience of SE at school, a talk about periods and diagrams in a book that never showed them actually doing it.
It was when I went on the YTS in 1986/87 that a lady came and gave a proper talk and showed us all the forms of contraception and gave out leaflets of which one had a cutaway diagram of a man's penis inside the woman's vagina and described what happened to the body during intercourse.
