Yes, I like the calm, determined way he tackles things and the general lack of fuss and whining from him. And quieter people often do thrive and come to the fore when the numbers get smaller.

In answer to the OP, they might just save him at this point, because any fans of the other three are unlikely to vote for this (hence Steve Davis's early exit the other year)... and does Mel even have a fanbase?

I wish that was a guarantee but it rarely is. Any of the other three and their ego's can go before him, as far as I'm concerned. He's inoffensive and does what is expected of him without bragging or whinging.
