do any networks have decent call reception in City of London?
OH just started a new job on a high floor in the City of London. Tried calling me using a smartphone but the call cut after 5 seconds of bad reception. Thereafter all attempts went to voicemail. Just texts work.
We need to be able to get hold of each other sometimes, so was wondering if a 2G old fashioned non smartphone might work? I have an old Sony Ericsson K750 lying around. Or a Blackberry (older kind although 3G) Question is though, which network might be best for call reception? Open Signal suggests Voda but reports I've read from googling are that Voda is awful in the City. OH is with EE on a one year SIM only deal and is using a 3G smartphone at present. thanks |

Most smart phones have the option to chose which band to use. So you could switch to 2G or 3G using the phone you have.

I get better results with O2 then i do with Three in The City, especially inside.
Cant comment on any other Networks as i've not used them, nor are any of my work collegues. |

thanks. I'll try to get hold of an O2 or a Tesco (they're O2 ) SIM to try out in the old phone if the 2G toggle won't work. Also not sure EE even have 2G reception do they?!

O2/Vodafone might even offer EDGE in London!

Best way is to ask around and see what other people use.

Sign up for one of the free 100gb EE Sims on the other thread to test out speeds & signal.

In general I find O2 to be the best in London.
EE in second, Vodafone is just behind EE and Three is in fourth. But that's based on my personal experience of using all 4 networks in London. I don't have any actual data to back this up. |

It really is interesting that the usual "crap" networks are best in London.

I'm on Three. Outside in the City, strong 4g and cellular signal, no complaints.
In one place of work (on Bishopsgate, sat right by the window), I have only 1 bar of signal (but this seems to be enough for making/receiving calls/texts, and still have 4g, so happy with that). In another place of work (on London Wall, back of building but still by window), no cellular or data signal. I do have access to wifi there, so can use Three in Touch, but let's not go there... It really depends on the infrastructure of the building and surrounding buildings with Three (perhaps more so than other networks? I dunno) as to signal strength/quality indoors. I'm going to investigate other networks once my contract with Three ends (at home in Streatham, a new block of flats that went up at the start of the yr has really affected my signal, is practically none existent now), and I'll try out sims from all the other major networks rather than go with network coverage maps - I'd recommend you do same if you can. |
