Just my opinion (to state the obvious ), but I don't believe Jim intended to be truly nasty. I think it was him going over the top, trying to "outdo" his sparring partner. Typical dressing room rubbish, vying to be top dog in an exchange with point scoring, which of course looks out of place elsewhere. He did go overboard, but I find it hard to see genuine malice in it. Just a gob***** being a gob***** really.

I can see why people found it uncomfortable to watch though.

He's not a bully. He's just a thick, loud-mouthed, thinks he's funny prat - but thats all!

His foul mouthed rant was truly, truly appalling and his lack of care for his fellow campers brought him down. Such a show-off.

So glad he has gone FIRST. Cheered me up no end.

Banter is a humorous interchange between two people. It's not one person acting like a spoilt cry baby because someone else said something that pricked at his fragile and wimpish ego.

I agree with this.

There were a few other moments where he was ranting in a humourous way but had a really quite nasty, angry expression briefly on his face then put a cheeky grin on and played the fool.

I liked him a lot at the start but began to find him a bit creepy and thought he might have quite an angry, nasty side hidden just below the surface.

I didn't like the banter bit. I thought Jake was just amused that Vicky mistook him for Michael and genuinely didn't realise how pissed off Jimmy was which was why the vitriol given in retaliation took him by surprise and shocked and hurt him.

That isn't what put me off Jimmy in the end although I would struggle to totally define what did. It was just lots of little subtle things that made me feel uncomfortable a lot of the time I watched him.

What was Jimmy supposed to have said that may have caused some offense?

Dressing-room banter belongs in the dressing-room. Jimmy is no longer a profesional footballer, and should get over himself.

I think that's a lot of his trouble, he's just not very bright, so he shouts and gets abusive in an effort to make his point.

He doesn't seem to have made any plans for the rest of his life. Quite sad really.

Why do people make out not liking banter makes you some sort of a sap?

It's jus' ban'aa mate!

As far as I'm concerned-

a) banter is bloody boring

b) that wasn't banter, it was just straight up abuse. Maybe it was intended to amuse in a kind of a mean way, but there was certainly no wit to it.

c) the word 'banter' should be banned, idiots use it as an excuse to be nasty to people. If you "can't take a bit o' banter" then you're deficient somehow. "It's just a bit of fun mate!" Fun for who exactly?

You have totally hit the nail on the head. When he first went in there I thought he was entertaining if a little inarticulate but as time went on I started to feel like there was a nasty creepy side. The Jakegate incident confirmed it for me. He was one of the wimpiest men ever to grace the programme too.

Jimmy is Marmite, you either love his off-the-wall, in-your-face "banter" or you hate it. In small doses, he'd probably be a good laugh after several beers on a Saturday night, and in the company of his mates. Unfortunately he doesn't have an off switch, and 24/7, he'd be incredibly annoying.

I've been thinking over the incident with Jake, because I originally thought that Jake was OK with it. I now believe that Jake was actually quite shocked, but was very quick to make the best of it and just laugh it off. There's no doubt in my mind, though, that it was that incident that sealed Jimmy's fate with the voting public.

I agree. He was pathetic in the 'terror tombs', I bet he felt a tw*t when he realised he was the only one to chicken out. The rats weren't even crawling on him, I guess they have better taste.

He was just a bit OTT and irritating. Okay for the occasional hour but a bit trying day-in day-out. You'd laugh the first few times at his daft tunes or whatever but I wouldn't fancy facing the same performance daily.

Some people are pathetic thinking banter is bullying.

It is sad that the majority of the country have to pussy foot around a few people who are such delicate souls.

^^^^this. I'm over 50 and lived before PC - I love a bit of banter with the best of them but Jimmy was a bully

In some ways his appearance on this show mirrored his football career.

When he was playing as a 4th rate midfielder with Wigan, certain parts of the 'new' media loved to indulge his cheeky chappie / fun "character" personality - Soccer AM most noticeably. But the truth was most football fans, and many in the game, thought he was pratt.

Similarly ITV and especially the no-brainers on ITV2 pushed him the same way and seemed to think we would all love him and his bantaa, and don't then somehow get it when he is the first to go.

A good all-round example of how a little fame and fortune can make some people completely lose their sense of reality.

The guy was originally a shoo-in to reach top 2! Well, until that "banter" or vicious tirade against Jake. That was the turning point to me. You can possibly talk to someone like that if they're a close mate you've known for years and years but not someone you've known barely two weeks.

Jake seemed taken aback by the tirade & tried to front it out with the Mr Burns comment but he genuinely looked shocked at the viciousness. I bet a lot of people had betted on Jimmy to win and the outrage from Joe/Laura/Rob was pathetic. If Jimmy was that popular then his fans would have saved him. The fact that he was out before Tinchy who has more or less been airbrushed from the edit most nights speaks volumes!

Banter = an excuse for tossers to act like tossers. I think I read that definition on another thread and it's pretty spot on.

EDIT: ITV really shot themselves in the foot with the whole Wombats v Galahs immunity team challenge. As I watched the Wombats do the trial, I said to my OH that I actually wanted all four to stay & that a few pieces of deadwood on the Galahs should really be going first. That immunity challenge really backfired.

If he was such a vile creepy individual as some are suggesting how come the rest of the camp were genuinely upset he was going ? They were with him 24/7 and all (barring Kendra) seemed to have no problem at all with him

I think if it had been a full vote then he might have been saved but when it was only the four he was in trouble.
As well as the "banter", he had turned from amusing to annoying with all that drum banging and shouting around rousing the troops (especially when he was the biggest wuss going). I'm sure I heard him say something about being a top class professional athlete (may not have been those words), who's he trying to kid, most non football fans I know who watched had never heard of him. Can't compare to Wimbledon champs, Olympic medaiists, world champs we've had on in the past.

I think people are forgetting that...and when you compare his "performance" in the tombs and the vineyard with the three other people he was up against in the vote he hardly covered himself with glory. I don't pretend it was easy...but his squealing and wimping out was in marked contrast to the quiet, determined and stoic performance of the others...and Tinchy was funny with it

I think he would have survived and it be more likely to be Nadia went out first had there been a full vote....suspect she will go tonight.

As someone who always loved his Soccer AM pieces and also someone who tipped him to win as soon as his name was confirmed for the show, I'm actually glad he's gone. A typical case of the gob***** with no guts whatsoever. It's amazing what 24/7 exposure teaches you about people you have previously seen only 'at their best' in small doses....

He annoyed me from day one.. just a show off and attention seeker.. I sat watching wondering what they were all finding amusing.. I did laugh a few times in the first few days at his antics but then he got carried away and more was added for shock effect too.. with his over zealous shows of affection for Foggy...If he acts like this on the outside world I dont know how his wee face hasnt been panned in years ago.
