There is a Tim Burton film with Amy Adams due soon called Big Eyes?
Could this be for the soundtrack? |

This song was originally commissioned for the closing credits but Tim Burton loved it so much he decided to include it in the film and get Lana to write another song (I Can Fly) for the closing credits. I wonder which one will be sent for Oscar consideration? She's fast becoming the queen of the soundtrack, isn't she

Ah but the Oscar voters didn't know that did they Dizagaox, this is the crazy story of why it really got snubbed: http://www.fashionnstyle.com/article...on-twitter.htm Quote:
The snub could be the result of sabotage: as we previously reported, an anonymous saboteur mailed an anonymous envelope to the members of the Motion Picture Academy music selection committee. The envelope contained a printout of a fabricated online article from Variety saying that “Young and Beautiful” had been disqualified from best song consideration over a technicality involving “The Great Gatsby’s” changed release date (Variety never published the article and there was no technicality).
Anyway, nuff of that. Big Eyes sounds like another totally gorgeous LDR song and that to me is more important than any nominations its gets. Lana definitely does some of her very best work for cinema and Big Eyes furthers that reputation. Its still typically Lana and yet manages to sound different again to anything she's done before. I can see it having a similar impact as Young and Beautiful. After various controversies, what a great way to finish the year. Can't wait to hear I Can Fly too !

Firstly let’s just say yes, Lana has done it again with both songs. Great stuff. Her vocal range and flexibility as always just stuns me. Using her more mellow range on I Can Fly rather than her trademark deep contralto gives a nice contrast. All the different things she can do with her voice still manages to surprise and stun me. Nobody else on the planet can sing like her really. Technically stunning singer that packs that raw punch of emotion too.
And thewaywardbus, erm hope you won’t take this as me been nasty; but do you serious think the voters give a toss to research it that deeply? From what I understand there's about 6000 odd people that vote for the Oscars, most of whom are actors. They just vote whatever the hype is dictating. I suspect most of them haven't even seen all the films they vote for never mind listened to any of the songs! Ian McKellen confirmed as much in an amusing interview on Graham Norton once. If you read that story I linked about Y&B and the fake letter telling people not to vote, it is indeed true. Bizarre eh? At the time there was also lots of humorous speculation it was Lady Gaga's revenge plot for the diss track of Lana's that leaked on the web. Whether it really made any difference or not is debatable. Lana probably wasn't quite well known enough Stateside at that time and that was always going to handicap her. But it is totally bonkers that somebody went to the length of making a fake letter and sending it out to the voters to discredit her! Maybe it was Gaga gone Gaga ???

To be honest, a song doesn't need to win an award for confirmation that's it's brilliant (to me).
Those two songs are amazing and evoke emotion, particularly 'I Can Fly', just beautiful. If she won, then great, but if not it really wouldn't change much at all. After all, 'Young & Beautiful' is attached to The Great Gatsby, no one cares that it hasn't got an award. |

Uuuhhhh waywardbus I think you give the Oscar process too much credibility. If it suddenly transpired that the likes of Pharrell Williams Happy and the actual winner from the last ceremony, Let It Go from Disney's Frozen, were in reality written years ago and adapted for the films they were in, nobody would care. Really, who's bothered? There would be no outcry at all.
Like I said in my earlier post I honestly aren't hung up other whether Lana wins or not, its just a bit of a fun talking point. As a fan of course I like to point out in terms of song writing quality Lana's tracks have stood head and shoulders above the competition. If it was based on meritocracy, yes she deserves to win. But seriously, against the mega marketing might of those Disney animation power ballads? Always going to be a tall task winning that contest in Oscar Land of Gods & Monsters (couldn't resits the Lana based pun). To be nominated at all is probably a victory in itself for all involved. Nice if it happens but not the end of the world. As Derek Faye says the real treat here is just getting another pair of utterly beautiful songs to enjoy. That's the greatest victory. |

It's alright, business as usual for her. She definitely relies on the quality of her voice over interesting chord progressions and arrangements, but compared to current female pop artists I'll take it.

Thewaywardbus lets kill this silly row we seem to be having, its distracting from the main discussion. I think we are both getting some serious wires crossed her for no good reasons. I care because its Lana-say no more
!Another great point there Derek Faye about the songs been available abroad and not on UK iTunes, how many times have we seen that happen eh? As per usual I guess we can only hope the reason for that is its been geared up for a big release with the film. |
