Do they have to starve them?

Not sure why they have to starve them? Does it really make the show more entertaining? Personally I find it a bit boring when they are so hungry that they just lie about in their hammocks all day (when not doing trials etc) I suppose it's to make them more irritable and more likely to have arguments but again I find that a bit boring too - but I guess some people must love all that!?

I agree - I quite enjoy watching them prepare the meals. I used to love it when there was LF and you used top see them preparing their evening meal at about 7am. Loved the year it was Anthony Worral Thompson/Linda Barker and Phil Tufnell.

I think it's wrong to starve them to ridiculous extremes.

I know - just means they have no energy to do trials & be entertaining!

Some are so thin already and doesn't it start eating into your organs if you don't have any flesh left? Could even do long term damage. I know they still have a bit of rice every day but hardly enough calories if you are already underweight like some of them look like they must be. Could even do long term damage. Really stupid - they're lucky nobody has been seriously ill yet!

I think it's nasty and unnecessary. Bad enough when they don't get enough stars and can hardly do the trials cos they are weak but putting them against each other is just copying BB with all the vileness that brings.

they are not really starving though.. they get 3 meals a day (rice and beans ) i must admit it must be hard living off that!

Isn't it starving though if you burn off more calories than you consume each day?

I keep, thinking of the starving in Africa and India so maybe they should think of that too. Not saying it's nice for them but it may make them think what it's like.

Starving is having no food at all

They put them into an adverse situation so the viewers can judge how they react. I think it would all become pretty dull if they all just went on a jolly little camping trip, with a few games to help them along the way. They know when they sign up what they are getting into, unless they're Gemma Collins.

Keeping them hungry means they are more keen to do trials and put up with doing horrible stuff. If they were better fed there would be no real drive to do things.

I do keep looking at Mel and think her face is starting to look like somebody who is genuinely underweight and malnourished.

Her cheeks are really hollow and her teeth prominent.

Echoing somebody above, she was very thin when she came in and probably couldn't afford to lose an awful lot.

It isn't very nice to watch.

Think I heard 500 calories when they're on rice & beans. They should give them at least 1500 calories a day (what people should take in when on a diet). Also should give them vitamin supplements.

They are not starving!

Yes they are getting a restricted diet that will cause them to lose their fattened up, first world, weight.

It wouldn't be so hard if they were already at a third world weight. You need less calories the lighter you are.

They get some treats (not readily available in the third world) and they know they will be out of it in a short time.

Boo Hoo, should they set up some charity so we can all pay in to to feed them?

I think she said that she'd been cutting down on food before she went in so she could get used to being hungry. Doesn't seem like such a clever ploy now though - she has no reserves. She's looking a bit unhealthy IMO - wouldn't be surprised if she takes ill.

Agree. It would have made more sense to put on a couple of stone before going in. Probably lose a couple of stone after 3 weeks in there.

This series has allowed more treats than ever before. Every episode, they're shoving about ten different treats down their gob...

A weight loss diet is 1000 calories a day for women, and 12-1500 for men.

Their weight is carefully monitored during their stay, and medics are watching at all times and would step in if things were really bad. We haven't heard of anyone being hauled in for check ups and supplements, so can only assume that all is well at the moment.

I thought it was mean that the wombats didn't get breakfast (and very mean of Kendra to tell them about it) when they were so hungry, and the Galahs could have given up their share of the cheese and crackers having eaten so royally for several days
