Saw this about Bruno's writer for DWTS and it made me start wondering if anyone has said who does the writing for the judges over here? Maybe this has been talked about before and I missed it!!

They get some monkeys drunk, sit them down at typewriters, and hope for the best.

Pretty sure it would take less than an infinite number to come up with "yum yum pig's bum!"

Craigs dictionary has a smaller number of words compared to the others. On the other hand, he has better command of the numbers.

I think Bruno is quoting directly from the stream of consciousness that is "James Joyce - The permanently pissed years".

Rob Colley gets most credits according to IMDb among 7 named writers. The BBC are rarely open with exactly who does what supplying lines for their "personalities".

"Acting" lines written by others with minimal rehearsal is a rare skill. There's an example of how it works in the "Annually retentive" show that Rob Brydon did with Dave Gorman as the writer a few years back.

If the judges need writers to be interesting and provide critique then fire the lot of them. Bring in people who can speak for themselves.

I find it slightly incredible that any scriptwriters are involved at all for any of them except maybe Bruno.

If such exist, I do hope they aren't paid much..... (most of it could be achieved by throwing darts at a few lists of stock phrases.)

I thought Bruno was scripted by Animal of The Muppets
I think Craig flies more by the seat of his pants. That 'lobotomised' comment was almost hysterical

I wouldn't be surprised if the judges have to make up their own stuff. They do get paid a lot, they do have a lot of time to think up lines while the show goes on, and they've seen the rehearsals too. It would explain why Darcy is usually lost for words, Craig is more insulting than even his pantomime role dictates, and Bruno and Len just repeat what they say in the US.

Pretty sure it is scripted, but even if they do make it up themselves, it's pre-prepared and not "off the cuff" following the dance.

Recently watched a clip of a dance from a past season and clearly heard Bruce start to read out an autocued comment, stop and go back to the bit he should have been reading, only to be followed by Len saying what Bruce started to read in error....

I can definitely confirm that the judges are not reading from an Autocue. I was sitting right behind them at the Christmas Special, and there is no autocue for them. However, they do all bring notebooks and they may well have lines they prepared earlier.

Wish I could remember what clip it was, but Bruce's half-spoken comment was definitely identical to what Len subsequently said (it started with "I tell you what..." which I accept doesn't narrow it down much ).

It may be that the judges read from notes rather than autocue, but that suggests to me that their intended remarks are added to the autocue for the benefit of the presenter.

It's probably scripted with room for ad lib.

He'd turn in his grave.

Much to flowery and neurotic to be Joyce. Failed sit-com writer's ghost perhaps? It's all so aspirational, but so badly put together.

Darcey and Craig don't need lines. They each have a brain and something to say. They make notes all the way through.

Bruno just waffles, and it's ghastly - and often utterly meaningless.

Len doesn't think he needs a script but struggles to even compose a sentence. Possibly the smallest brain of the lot, the biggest ego (fatal) and the most miniscule vocab.

He can barely speak English, let's face it.

You mean they have writers for that? Well they not very good ones are they?

I mean half of Lens witticisms have been sitting in a draw since 1976.

Craig's writer just needs to remember 'fab-u-lus' and 'de-Zaz- tar' for the right moment.

Bruno has a writer with terminal verbal diahrea.

And Darcey has a writer that failed the audition piece for Tatler.

I had wondered if they had script writers, but when I saw that there were definitely writers for DWTS, I thought they must have something similar here. Although, I agree with lots of the other posters - if they have writers for the judges over here, they are not worth the money! haha Some of the quips are pretty dire!
