Frank skinners character was very likeable and would be a different dynamic to a companion than what we've had for a while, being a middle aged man not from earth. To add Osgood into that mix would give the balance of still having a female companion whilst also providing a female companion who is, again, different to the kind of companion we are used to traveling with. In summary, although it is unlikely, I think it would be a fantastic idea.

Why do they never think to do something different when coming up with the companion's personality? I know rose, martha, donna amy and clara all have there own personalities, but they are all still of a certain type. I'd welcome a geek like osgood, or a male mate like frank skinners character any day as a refreshing change.

Oh well, at least those characters got to each be in one good story. (osgoods was day of the doctor)

I get what you mean (at least I think I know who you're referring to ), but I don't think there are any similarities (that we know of) beyond the obvious being female and geeky? Amy is more needy than Osgood (did we ever find out Osgood's first name?), but maybe that's only because we know far more about her by now than Osgood.

I bet a lot of fans, like me, were gutted when Osgood was killed off, as she kinda represents fandom with her obvious adoration of the Doctor.

If anything, I'd imagine Skinner would me more willing to do it than Oliver. Skinner's a fan and may be willing to do it for an 'affordable' fee, while Oliver is probably thinking about her wider career, assuming she was happy to go so soon.

All the men in Doctor Who so far have either been idiots or been naive and insecure enough to have the wool constantly pulled over their eyes by women and always put up with it. The women have all been strong, independent and forthright persons who never take any bull from men. Having Osgood and Perkins would be a refreshing chance to these tired stereotypes.

All the female companions of the new show have been like women in modern TV adverts, always getting one over docile and pathetic men and feeling very smug about it afterwards.

You have a point there. Around the turn of the millennium, I lived in the USA for a few years. Upon returning to the UK, the "inverted sexism" you're describing was one of the first changes I noticed. There were a couple of ads on TV at that time: one where a woman was talking on the phone to a friend, mocking her male partner's offer to cook their evening meal. And another with a young woman at a sunny poolside, sniggering and sneering at the men holding in their paunches as she passed by.
It probably coincided with the rise of the so-called "ladette" culture. All quite unpleasant and something which certainly wouldn't be tolerated were the gender roles reversed.
