Hair curling advice

Hi I was wondering does anyone have any recommendations for a hair curler for hair that just won't hold curls.

My hair is naturally straightish with a bit of a kink- can go a bit wavy if I don't blow dry it.
I've tried using my ghd to curl my hair and it looks great.....for about five minutes at most.

It doesn't matter how much hair spray I use, if I wait a while in between washes etc., my hair just ends up straight with a weird kink very soon after curling.

Does anyone know of any good curling wands etc. for people with this problem?
I'm dying for curly hair!

I have a similar problem to you. My hair just will not hold a curl. The only way I can get it to work is by doing the following. It stays in for a couple of days too.

Wash the night before.
Put absolutely loads (and I mean loads) of mousse in.
Comb through and leave to dry naturally.
Next day put loads of dry shampoo on in the morning.
Leave it a couple of hours.
Then tong using whichever tool.
Hairspray when finished.

Make sure you remove build up from the hair. My hair won't hold a curl if there's too much product in it.

Setting lotions or mousse are key imo. When you've made the curl, pin it down spray and leave it to cool.

My hair is poker straight, coarse Asian hair, and short. I use Pro Naturals Hair Repair System so my hair is well protected and the leave in treatment is Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan Oil, it protects, is absorbed by the hair and I have found that my Karmin G3 Salon Pro Hair Styling iron does the trick. It has 1" 100% tourmaline ceramic plates. I use it daily and there is no damage to my hair as I always keep an eye on the temperature. The Karmin website has reviews showing how to use their products properly. It took me a couple of days before I really got the hang of it and now have my hair as curly as I want it, unless the day is particularly wet or humid.

Just seen this now. Thanks will definitely look into it.

I actually got gifted a cheapish tre semme wand which I assumed wouldn't work at all but I'm actually finding it great in comparison to my ghd. Not sure why because I know loads of hairdressers use the ghd rather than curling irons/wands.

I find if I don't use any spray or mousse then curls seem to hold longer.
