Three UK - PAYG 2015 Tariffs?
I've just seen Three UK's Facebook page and this post is clearly visible and posted via Three UK's social media team.
'Hi Stuart, we're constantly reviewing our tariffs and services and are yet to confirm our 2015 price plans. All-you-can-eat data will continue to be a key part of our offerings in the future.' - Gill Wonder what they mean about this, maybe it's a hint at a change of the PAYG tariffs also as well as the Pay Monthly tariffs ; 'we're constantly reviewing our tariffs and services and are yet to confirm our 2015 price plans' - Gill What do you guys think? |

Three social media team don't know anything.
I've already said that Three are in the final stages of signing off their new tariffs for 2015 which are going to be similar to O2 refresh style of plan. AYCE data is still going to be offered as part of Three's plans. Tethering will be capped. |

Three whatever they decide in 2015, will probably force everyone to change to their new idea LOL

It could happen, personally I think unlimited data on PAYG will go, I think they'll continue with unlimited handset data, but only on contract. We'll have to wait and see.

Maybe AYCE will stay, but only on a more expensive add-on (so it won't really be worthwhile) and with a block on tethering completely, Three will be banking on the take up being quite low.
Three restricts PAYG SIMs to phones and tablets of 7-inches or less (not sure how effectively it enforces/detects this, mind) and I assume it's because the network assumes that on smaller screens, people won't be streaming as much video as they might on an iPad air or Nexus 9 etc. I would say that Three has probably done its research, but I'm not so sure. It seems it is acting on orders from above and needs to just make money, so restrictions or price hikes are going to be the order of the day for a while longer yet. |

Also i've noticed a clause in the PAYG price guide for the addons which they made more visible during June 2014 (When The One Plan ended) ;- http://www.three.co.uk/_standalone/L...=1400542092272 Page 5 on this PDF document clearly says ;- http://www.three.co.uk/_standalone/L...=1400542092272 'Three reserves the right to suspend, modify, rename or withdraw Add-ons, without notice, at any time.' The Without Notice bit is a little of putting surely they have to give 30 days? Before ending a ad-don for whatever reason? Customers would of paid for a add-on for 30 days. The fact it says 'Suspend' this implies that Three UK have authority to stop a add-on from a users account even if they've paid for it in less than the '30 Days' duration of the add-on. |

But if you weren't supposed to tether with a 3 PAYG sim, 3 will not miss the PAYG'ers who were tethering on it.

Exactly, just like giffgaff did you just don't make the addon available any more. PAYG is clearly a non contract obligation for either party beyond the immediate bundle that is sold to last 30 days.
The whole point of getting a contract is you're buying into a fixed period of stability, PAYG works both ways, both for the consumer and the company. |

Consuming 10GB worth of data is nowhere near as high as £70 per month.
3 would be totally crazy if they seriously think their existing customers are prepared to pay them £70 to use just 10GB of data by ditching their AYCE package. 10GB per month on a sim card is not excessive data usage. And 10GB per month consumption is certainly not badly impacting on the performance of the network for other users. 3 offering £20 for 10GB of data consumption per month on a single sim card would be far better than restricting it to 2 to 3GB of data for £15. |

It's almost as if this year the company is pushing to show an increase in it's EBITDA for some investment/valuation reason. If It was looking to purchase another company, this (profitability) boost could help with the financial side of an offer (securing funding etc). Maybe it's all related?

If I had to pay EE-style pricing for data, why would I stick with the cheap and cheerful network with its numerous issues and ridiculous 4G rollout, when I can pay the same for the comparatively "rolls royce" EE network which is likely to give me 4G sooner, a less congested 3G network and seamless 2G backup? People use 3 because they currently have a good price/service balance and will put up with the issues for lower prices, but hiking prices will tip that |

Company's normally look for measures to raise ebitda for the purpose of driving up their own valuation ahead of a sale.

If you want an idea of what to expect, look at the market, at the moment Three is behind in all data areas except mobile-only usage when compared to EE and even Vodafone when it comes to tethering...

![]() 3 will give you unlimited phone data and 4GB of tethering for £15. Seems like 3 is still the best value? |

![]() It depends how you measure it, on value for money? probably ahead, on overall 3G coverage ahead, on value probably ahead. If you only talk about 4G then maybe, but of course they launched 4G last, many months after the others, so you'll see them catch up over time (or buy O2 and integrate) |

Three's 3G coverage is still second to none, in terms of data speeds. While there are some congested areas, generally speaking you can rely on perfectly good speeds in most places when you have a signal.
EE is now catching up rapidly as old sites are upgraded, but if you haven't got a 4G enabled EE site then you may well find the site isn't DC-HSDPA enabled and so you simply won't get the speeds you'll get on the vast majority (90% or more?) of Three sites. I do think that some people are suddenly discounting 3G as a viable way of providing data, and forgetting that you can still get speeds of almost 30Mbps - which often beats some 4G speeds. Latency is the main issue, and a slower uplink, but fast uplink speeds are really only useful for a small percentage of people in comparison. |

Unless a serious portion of the network is congested I beg to differ. Three speeds of 1.2mbps on 3G are the norm in the various parts of the UK I was last week. EE manages 8mbps in same places. 4G on Three around 22mbps max, with 40+ on EE 4G.
