Corrie, Emmerdale, EastEnders and Hollyoaks are all shown on BBC UKTV
http://www.bbcaustralia.com/tv-guide/ Emmerdale is over a year behind but the other soaps are recent episodes. |

Not on the main free to air channels. I believe Corrie & EE are shown on cable but they are a good few years behind and definitely don't have anywhere near the same profile of Neighbours or H&A in the UK. I think if you mentioned either to joe public they probably wouldn't have even heard of them. Or maybe vaguely heard the names but not sure what it is.

This must explain why neighbours has had a long lost daughter turning up and someone being buried alive, the same things that happened on EE just a few years back they must be fans.

7two used to show Corrie, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks in the morning slot. Along with classic Home and Away, Sons & Daughters and Shortland Street it formed like a four hour block of soaps.
Hollyoaks was the last to be introduced and the first to be axed in around 2011. Episodes were from around 2009. It aired double episodes around 11 am. Emmerdale was shown from September/October 2009 to January 2012. Episodes were from 2001 to 2004. Corrie was shown from September/October 2009 to 19 September 2014. The reason given for the axing was their contract expired. Episodes were from Christmas 2001 to Craig wanting to go to Germany with Rosie October 2006. Originally the soaps were in the afternoon slot around 3 before moving early 2010. Cable still airs them, but not free to air tv. |

c. 1979 Australian soap 'The Restless Years' had an end of year cliffhanger where a villain apparently buried alive one of the show's most important characters, Miss McKenzie (June Salter). The following year it was revealed that the bitchy Rita Merrick (Joy Chambers) - who was usually the show's main villain - had actually rescued Miss McKenzie from the crate before it was buried. Yes, both actors mentioned have appeared in Neighbours. Back to the OP question, EastEnders was shown free to air on the ABC at 6.30 pm between 1987 and 1992, running at the accelerated rate of five episodes a week. It was taken off shortly after the arrival of Phil and Grant. EastEnders later resumed with episodes from the late 1980s on cable TV, where it has run ever since. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EastEnders#International Coronation Street was a big hit on commercial TV in Australia in the 1960s. It was gone by the 1970s but resurfaced in obscure timeslots on Nine a couple of times. It has regularly been seen on cable since the 1990s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corona...al_syndication This article also sums things up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen...s_in_Australia |
