It's worth watching today's cliffhanger on channel 5 - great episode!

I really think neighbours is getting back on form and needs to be recognised. It puts the uk soaps to shame at times.

I agree. Today episode was good and we have to wait a month to find who is the stalker

Ah it was a good cliffhanger, waiting a month for it to return is too long.

Have to agree it's the best soap - and the only one I currently watch (used to watch more or less all of them).

I watched Neighbours in the early days (80s) and then stopped for years, then got back into it about 2 years ago when I was off work one day

Going to miss it until it's back in January!

I wouldn't say it is 'back on form' necessarily, more that it shows signs of having the potential to be good again, they just need to keep making the right moves.

I still think if all 30 seasons were to be ranked by writing, characterisation and production quality, this year would still be amongst the bottom 10, but it has definitely been an improvement over 09-13, which was consistently shite. I've really enjoyed the injection of comedy seen this year! The drama.... not so much

The upcoming new (or old) logo and scrapping the saccharine current theme is a great start towards making 'positive' changes towards the production side of things though! Next they need to work on the interior lighting and tear down that hideous Lassiters complex, before rebuilding it from scratch. No matter how many times they re-decorate it, NOTHING will ever make that 2005 rebuild look good.

It really is. I gave up on it for a few years under Bower because it became something absolutely dreadful. But now it's more like it used to be. Shame it isn't in the Beeb anymore.

Watched Neighbours all the time when I was in primary school, stopped around 1999 and dipped in now and again. Been watching for the past week and what strikes me about it despite bad things happening to the characters, it's not all depressing like other soaps.

I've been loving it for the last year or so. Today's episode was fantastic and I can't believe we have to wait a month to find out what happens with all those cliff-hangers!

I enjoy watching Neighbours. It always seems like the storylines are well thought out and they know how to keep it interesting. It has the right balance of drama and humour and it has decent continuity. The only other soap I watch is Hollyoaks and that's a mess.

People say it's back on form like its a recent thing. I think it's been back to its best for months, in fact most of the year.

It is my favourite of all the soaps at the mo, just beating Eastenders. 2015 is going to be a fantastic year for the show I think.

i am sure the beeb and itv are very concerned about this. charlotte moore and peter fincham are quite worried.

Neighbours is the only soap I watch these days. I think this is the strongest it's been in a very long time. I'm loving the balance between teens, families and older characters and the old Neighbours humour is coming back which has been missing for a long time.

I'm enjoying the grittier storylines as well (Sonya's stalking, Who punched Chris, etc), but do wish that they'd stretch them out longer and not conclude them in a couple of episodes.

Neighbours is brilliant at the moment, but it will never get the ratings that Corrie, EE and Emmerdale get, because of the channel it's on and the time of day. So long as its beating the rest, it's all good!

This year is definitely an improvement over 2007/2008 though. In fact I would rank 2012/2013 well above those lacklustre years.

Neighbours is definitely the best soap going for me at the moment and is the only one that is holding my attention. I'm looking forward to seeing how the 30th pans out.

And UK snobbery. I'm sure there are plenty of Corrie fans (for example) who would love Neighbours but won't give it a chance because it's an "Aussie soap".

Which is their loss really, because the quality of writing on Neighbours this year puts Corrie and many other UK shows to shame.

I think it because many uk potential viewers can't wait the show because it's on too early, I don't understand why channel 5 got rid of its 7pm third showing which was doing really good especially for those who finish work after 6pm.

It's time for channel 5 to show its 7pm showing.

I think the reason 2007/08 was better (but yeah, far from perfect) was because at that point, the show was still good at doing the 'day to day' stuff, scenes that didn't affect a story at all, but helped us get to know a bit more about the characters. The current show really lacks that imo and I think that is Neighbours most important ingredient, without it, the show feels a bit bland.

Plus the whole production just seemed more professional back then, loads of location shooting, MUCH better emotive music, better lighting, better theme song etc. Now the show has the look and sound of a web-series.

I don't think the UK soaps need to worry about a soap that rarely reaches 1m viewers

Is this a wind up? Truth is I don't think ITV or the BBC really give a rats about Neighbours. I haven't watched it for years so cant comment on content but even if the BBC did manage to get it back it isn't suddenly going to be rivalling Eastenders for ratings. Its a show that gets around 1 million viewers, it isn't causing the bosses at ITV or the BBC any sleepless nights.
