for crying out loud how many family letters do you need for a three week holiday..come on I'm sure you can think of better ideas for making good tv!

Welcome to Blair's Britain. Everyone's a pu$$y, or rather feels the need to act like one. It all began when Princess Diana died - people suddenly felt the need to publicly outpour emotion. It's not the British way. Good on old Michael Burke for simply making a joke of his grandkids mocking him. Vicky Michelle and her fricking daughter on the other hand. Makes you wanna puke.

It's the same on every reality show though. A letter from home has the power to turn all the contestants into an emotional wreck. Maybe it's one of those "You have to be there" kind of things. But it always seems ridiculous to me that they get so upset over letters from people they saw a couple of weeks ago and will see again in a week.

I do find them a bit bleurgh & the reactions do seem a tad OTT, however when I think about it, if I was away from my kids for 3 weeks with absolutely no contact, not even a text, I think I'd probably get a bit emotional if I received a letter from them.
And when you think about, in every series when the letters arrive, the majority of the celebs do tend to get upset so who knows how you'd be in a similar position.

Totally agree with you are all these contestants on the show really this weak and emotional it is bordering on being a little pathetic to me, as soon as they get a letter or something from home they just breakdown in tears like they haven't see their loved ones in YEARS!!!!!!!!! LOL. There are only in the jungle from three weeks that isn't even a long time. If they were in there for months or perhaps i dunno maybe even for more than a whole month then i would understand why perhaps some of them are reacting like this.

Surely some of these celebs have had to be away from their families before as part of their professions LOL. If they can't bear to be away from their families for even three weeks without contact then perhaps they shouldn't be on the show

It probably feels like they've been away from loved ones for longer than they have though, because there's no contact.
Normally they'd at least be able to call or text if they are away from home.
But then, I'm a bit of a softie, and the letters do move me

Errrr if being away from your kids for a fortnight makes you a jibbering wreck then don't do it? Oh, hang on, they're celebs so they'll sell their soul for cash. They think viewers want to see them cry, so they cry. Don't for one minute think it's genuine.

Well yes, I suppose so - but that raises a whole different subject I guess; I.e: how far would you go/how much would you sacrifice to hang onto your 15 minutes?!

Sat night before the final night for letters from home after the last meal, also this seeing family/friends after a few days, ie Foggy, Jimmy and Vikki around that pool, ridiculous.

Totally agree. How old is Vicky's daughter FFS. Looked like university age. Imagine if/when she went to university. How could she cope with not seeing her 'baby' for a whole semester. Absolutely pathetic.

Imagine how servicemen and women cope, not these phony celebrities.

Cynical, but I agree

I'm a hard bugger so I do find it weird when they all start crying.
Mind you if I was stuck in there with nothing to do and bored and hungry, maybe some letter might set me off.

I am at a loss why any man or woman who had a new child would enter that show though.
Leaving them would make me want to blub daily.

Don't like them but I think they're more justifiable on this show than on Big Brother.

No idea, but old enough surely to object to be called her mother's "Baby"!!! As you say, pathetic.

Her daughter Louise is 24 and an actress.

It's more a term of endearment.

She doesn't actually think her daughter is a baby.

Although I do think they are being a bit soppy, it's not the same as a 3 week holiday. You can't send a text or make a phone call. Plus you can't leave a small area unless you have a trial and you are spending all your time with a lot of strangers. I can see that being quite hard at times. You can't just let off steam by sending a few messages back and forth to your family.

It's all a bit unhealthy that they can't even manage 3 weeks without contact.

I know of people who speak parent to child at least once a day and that's with grown children. I went on a 3 month cruise and didn't speak to my adult son for the whole time. I must be a cold mother

There should be a show in which a bunch of young folk are isolated somewhere without their Smartphones. I think they'd crack up pretty quickly!

They've had letters, phone calls, and some have actually met relatives. They are surrounded by Aussie tech crew, they meet Ant and Dec every day and are within earshot of the studios. So much for isolation, they might as well film the series on an industrial estate in Stoke Poges.
