I wouldn't be surprised if she kept hold of them because she suspects Ben and wants to keep the evidence just in case.

Jay burnt his hat to dust? That's a pretty good way of evidence I think anyway.

I don't know why Jane put them under the floorboards like that! They are bound to be found by the police at some point. Why can't people get rid of things properly? It's so frustrating. Possibly Jane has kept them in case she needs to give them to the police at some point?

I wonder if the police secretly are aware of the phone being reactivated at the Beales (surely they must be monitoring any activity?) and are biding their time.. We know they're not being completely open about the investigation as they're secretly following Lauren and Keeble wanted Ian to crack at the press conference as she suspected he was hiding something - we knew it was his secret about Rainie but they must think it's connected to Lucy.

Yes! In real life cases of missing people believed murdered the police certainly monitor the victim's phone. They can pinpoint a phone's position to a point but I'm not sure that they can trace it close enough to someone's house in a built up area.

Sounds plausible. I think this could easily happen in the next month which would put the Beale family in the frame.

Ha I know in real life the phone wouldn't stay charged long enough but it would be amazing if Keeble was in the house telling the Beales Lucy's phone had been reactivated and then she calls it and it starts ringing underneath her .

This is the only explanation I can think of for her keeping them. She knew if she handed them to Phil he would have destroyed them (and done it properly Phil is a dab hand at covering up murders). Even if she was the killer/does have something to hide surely Phil getting rid of them would work in her favour? Its got to be that she suspects Ben and is keeping them to hold against him. Ian was quick to believe his half-brother wouldn't hurt Lucy but I don't think Jane is so sure.

That's a good point. Betty left with Martin, Sonia and Rebecca when they departed in 2007 - that's the real dog not the doorstop that caved Den's skull in - however with all three of the Fowlers now back I wonder if we'll see Betty again. Pauline got her as a puppy is 2004 so she would only be 10 years old now Cairn Terriers tend to live to about 15 so she could easily still be alive.

there is currently a resistance movement who are trying to ensure the animals of The Eastend are moved to a safe location away from the animal serial killer who resides at number 5.

I guess Jane could take the phone to look at something on it, hears the front door opening, quickly puts it back, forgetting to switch off the phone, and Ian comes in Keeble. I do like the idea of the scene you described.
