That sh*tty Corrie 'End of Part 1' music since 2010
Had enough, got to rant.
After 4 years I still really dislike... okay, HATE, the new End of Part 1 music on Coronation Street. And indeed I still haven't warmed to the new theme music they introduced in 2010. I can't get used to it and I'll never like it!The previous End of Part 1 music was perfect. Indeed the previous theme music was perfect. (You can listen to the start, break music and closing theme by clicking here) I know it's similar but ugh it's so horrible now and I'll never get used to it. I like the opening titles but the music sucks. Also changing the writer/director credits at the start of the episode from the Coronation Street font to the ITV font cheapened the programme. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's too much to ask for Stuart Clownburn to change this but maybe the next producer will keep the visuals the same on the titles but restore the old music (ITV's This Morning did this fairly recently) including End of Part 1 sting and restore the Corrie font for the credits at the start of the episode. RANT OVER! I don't expect this thread to get any replies as I'm just a freak.

It sort of sounds like a melodic wet fart, which coincidentally is a great way to describe Hatburns's production values.

I don't notice any difference.
The font's better too. But both are out of Blackburn's hands. They were brought in by itv and long before Blackburn started. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8JyTxp_TNA New break http://youtu.be/xNIY95Iuvtk?t=21m55s Surprised at whoever it was who said they couldn't notice the different, and that the generic ITV font is better than the Trajan font which is used for the Corrie logo. LOL. Each to their own. To me the difference is that the old theme had a kind of melancholiness to it which suited the show and its theme. The new one is quite whiny, and at times VERY parpy and annoying (the additional 3-note riff they added is frustrating, reminds me of Fiona singing with the bird in Shrek). As for the break music, they lazily just use the start of the opening theme now whereas before they had a 5 note part which was great for the End of Part 1 mini-cliffhangers. Now it's just like UGH a break. |

I still prefer the old theme but I've got pretty used to the new one now. The End of Part 1 bit does still annoy me though, it just seems out of place. They should use the version they use on the ITV web videos, which is just a new version of the old End of Part 1 anyway.

It still makes no difference. Both sound like out of tune trumpets doing a funeral march.
The font is such a minor detail. |

The font is such a minor detail. And what I'm reading is your opinion is you don't like both theme tunes. Well I love the theme music for Coronation Street but really feel the theme they discontinued in 2010 is the best they've had. See all opening titles from 1960-2010 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQDiaAmRA-o Compare the music. It's rather different. Maybe some people just haven't got an ear for music. |

Regarding the font, compare:
Old, Corrie font http://youtu.be/auqu5gCdO18?t=28s New, corporate font http://youtu.be/u-_SgMsAjU4?t=25s Sans serif to serif. quite a big difference. It's bad enough they ruined the end credits to be so dull, black and in ITV's font without needlessly changing the opening scene credits as well. Maybe a future producer will read this post so it might not be in vain and they'll sort the music out and bring back the proper Corrie font (hopefully not just for the writer/director but the end of the episode as well, with cobbles in the background, instead of ITV font on black!) |

A minor detail to you maybe. But not to me and others! And it doesn't need to be a major detail, there was no reason to corporatise the show's writer/director credits. Emmerdale didn't change their opening-scene credit font to ITV's so why did Corrie?

I hate the new end of part 1 music
The old one was much better, it packed a punch under whatever just happened. It sounded more dramatic.

Could you stay on topic please.
![]() Anyway back to the topic you have disregarded and tried to drag off topic; I'd like it if they brought back the Corrie font and had a dark cobbled background for the end credits - like this YouTube mock. [it's not using the exact right font but they did a good enough job mocking it up roughly] Also someone on YouTube has edited the titles to include the NEW visuals and the OLD (vastly and clearly superior to most people's ears) music - a perfect combination of old and new (and exactly what This Morning recently did). Watch it here. A quote from the comments on the video above: "i agree. it's the music that's wrong. the intonations on the main trumpet are all wrong in my opinion" |

This thread isn't about me so stick to the topic instead of taking it rudely off course. Glad my profile was so interesting for you to bother to click it. Enjoy. ![]() I'd say you covered taking it "rudely off course" when you deemed the topic I'd taken the time to write about a "minor" thing repeatedly. Clearly I didn't think it was a minor thing so I wrote a thread about the topic. Everyone else in the thread has agreed with my sentiment, but despite it being such a minor insignificant thing to you, you've insisted on sticking around and suggesting everything I think is pointless. It's like you starting a thread and me saying "oh pipe down, it's such a minor quibble. Don't know what you're on about mate, I think it's just you." |
