Why is Mel Not Self Sufficient?

Edwina has a problem with that comment, but it's true..

She did sound very anxious for reassurance when she was talking to her mother. Few of us are really self-sufficient.

I think he she meant from a cooking and living standpoint, independent not relying on anyone.

No one is completely self-sufficient. Mel is a feminist and instantly thought Edwina was been sexist and that's why she got aggressive - Edwina wasn't specifically meaning Mel, or even just women aren't self-sufficient.... she meant the human race.

Edwina does not have a problem with that comment.
That comment is a question which Edwina could easily answer.

That's how I saw it. She felt quite capable of getting wood, and didn't need a man to get it for her. Edwina jumped in to say how we all 'need' one another, which is true, but not relevant to what Mel was saying. Mel's is a good attitude to have, we can love one another without doing it because we need a man to put up a picture, or need a woman to iron a shirt.

"Are you proud of me?" - Said in a desperate voice.
You don't fish for a compliment like that if you're self sufficient.
You just get on with it and don't rely on what someone else thinks. If somebody is proud of you then you let it come from them, not try to feed to them what you want to hear.

I don't think Edwina has any problem that Mel thinks that way, I just don't think Edwina believes it's true. I'm not sure Mel does either, but it's become sort of a mantra.

Now I'm no human behaviour specialist... but Mel is so serious and touchy about being not being picked first for the netball team, erm I mean over not being considered the best at being all things to all people, that it may have been a total wind up from Edwina.

I thought she meant she could handle her life withoot the help of a man... as she has plenty of cash and her own career.... ok for some but we all need someone... whether its to babysit, pay our wages or just listen to our worries..

Yep the first thing she asked her was the usual old mantra of "are you proud of me"? Proud for doing what? Saving a life, going to Afghanistan to administer aid, donating a kidney? No - being an old misery guts in a reality show for which she is getting hundreds of thousands - nice for 3 weeks work.

Exactly. What does she have to be proud of ... Oh yes the money she was paid to go on the show.
