Hi

I updated my software today but part way though the MacBook crashed and restarted.
I had obviously backed up to date and then as the new version was going on with the backed up version the MacBook died and restarted.
When iTunes restarted it seemed to carry on as normal however the phone hasn't got my contacts , messages, or photos, apps and music are however there.
I assumed that if I just tried to do it again it would be ok but it backed up again first and overwrote my proper back up with the new one. I thought it left the old one there until I deleted it but it didn't
I have googled for a solution but how do I decide what will work?? Or can an Apple Store fix it?

Your old backups should still be in the MacBook, I've still got backups from 2013 on my PC from all the backups that I made or happened automatically when syncing, just use the option to use an older backup and look for one just before the crash.

They aren't in iTunes, are you suggesting they are elsewhere if so where?

Back ups don't "overwrite", each one saves by date and time into a folder on the computer. If you have previously backed up, they will be saved unless/until you delete them.

I don't use a Mac, but a very quick google search for "iPhone backup on Mac" has thousands of hits, with this being one of the first:
