Poor Peter was out riding his stunt horse in that night gown! I recall that set reports were extremely complimentary as he was over to chat and sign for people between every take in the cold!
He remarked a few times (on set & on the world tour) that he wished the TARDIS prop had it's own heating system

It's also why Peter robbed a homeless man. The DW Extra cameras just happened to be rolling and they kept it in...

It was the wrist watch he was wearing that he swapped.
The Doctor was wearing it when he left Paternoster Row but didn't have it when he later met up with Clara.
He does have a wristwatch again by Into the Dalek (so either just got a new one or the continuity people messed up).
