Hi there, last year we got my inlaws a new tv LCD big screen for their sight but it is on lound when we visit due to failing hearing (in their 80's) I was thinking that a surround sound system would help them as regards hearing the sound I have a 3.1 system not got round to making it 5.1 but have the gear. maybe a 3.1 system would enhance the sound so they can hear better, he is not adverse to technology but \i have to fix it on every visit!
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

depends what content they watch.
if the content they watch doesn't have a 5.1 audio track then it'll be a bit pointless connecting up a 5.1 audio system.

thanks for the reply but when they they have been up at mine they have liked the sound of my 3.1 and it's not the sutilties of 5.1 if any, I'm thinking of making the sound richer so they can hear it better, ratner then having a tv set blaring out!

Thanks again

Edit
They have access to HD through a Humax foxsat

again though, it they are not watching content with a 5.1 audio track then it's pointless.
they may benefit from better stereo speakers, but 5.1 would be overkill.

Try a soundbar, for example

Probably easier to accommodate than an amp and speaker system.

I would recommend a soundbar or soundbase.

There's a guide here which may help you decide which would be best for your inlaws.
