Doesn't this rumour happen every year? Would an earlier time-slot help or are we just more used to watching episodes on catch-up?

The Mirror has never printed a factually accurate story since before that utter scumbag Puce Moron became editor, just like The Scum it prints BS to sell to the moron readership it barely clings onto, even the DM prints more accurate pieces and that's saying something.😃

Go ahead!

But what if there's a kernel of truth in the story?

Just another let's look at some internet comments to make up a story, If Dr Who is a ratings flop then there's no future for Atlantis.

Bring it back to it's original spring slot.

'Badlantis' is dead according to insiders, DW makes money and is still a ratings banker, the truth is 'Badlantis' cannot capitalise on the SCD ratings whereas DW did and I would hazard a guess that the moron who wrote in article in crayon and on pretty pink paper for whatever moron happens to be Mirror editor these days is a 'Badlantis' fan.

TBH I preferred the DW 21 in its original March - May slot, and then looked forward to the Christmas Special! But that's just me.
I remember the days of old when it was throughout the winter in the 70's - but that was for six months!
Times have moved on - Doctor Who was best for me early year and then Merlin in the Autumn of the year - perfect! Shame that has stopped now.
(I always wished they had done a Merlin Xmas Special too! )

Atlantis ain't the same!!

I doubt it will do any better in an earlier slot - ratings are down across the board for everything, even Coronation St has slipped sub-5m this week.

In any case, it does well in consolidated figures and the BBC's lack of advertising means they actual count for something, plus the overseas sales and merchandising make a decent profit.

As long as it's on iPlayer after broadcasting and in HD, then who cares what time it's shown?

Personally I thought they only recomissioned Atlantis for its high ratings in its first 2 eps. If they had waited till the end of the series I doubt it would have been.

Rule one of tabloid journalism: "Pick a safe bet, add bullshit."

Doctor Who is almost definitely going to move to an earlier slot next year, seeing as this year it broadcast in its latest ever timeslot. They pre-empt the change that's likely to happen, and make up the rest so it looks like they've got insider knowledge.

http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/doctor-...ator-66394.htm Ratings are great. Same as ever! And you don't get more bums on seats by broadcasting in an earlier slot.

LOL. Once again the world can't decide if Doctor Who is CBeebies rubbish or too adult.

Also conveniently ignored the 8.31m Live+7 data & the BBC's praising DW's performance. Got to make those headlines. I hope there's one proclaiming Atlantis to be the worst thing to ever be produced on British television based on it's performance.

Well, what complete and utter tommyrot.

(I apologise for the strong language, but really, what a pile of effluence.)

So it's a ratings failure because viewership is down by 80k per episode, yet, on the other hand, the number of those recording the show to watch it at a different time has increased by 39%.

What's telling is that Doctor Who didn't suffer from being up against the X Factor Live Shows...even when Simon tried desperately to boost ratings with shock evictions on a Saturday night.

Anyway, doesn't matter what slot it has. It gets decent overnights and incredible catch-up figures.

Even taking the overnights in isolation, Doctor Who is the third most watched show on Saturday night after Strictly and then X-Factor. If it is moved to a different slot, it won't be because of viewing figures.

Shows like Strictly, X-Factor and 'I'm A Celebrity' have bucked the trend towards 'catch up' viewing (I think) because watching them 'live' is part of the experience.

I think it a shame the Mirror has run that story. I genuinely thought all the press was beginning to see how 'catch up' viewing was impacting on overnights generally.

Not the best article, but why the need for the outright hostility.

Surely the best way to deal with it is to rise above it.

I wouldn't even buy the Daily Mirror to wrap up the leftovers for the bin.

Just think about the intelligence of the above quote.

Don't your council give you a roll of little green bags each year for that?

Move it back to the 7:00-7:30 start and all problems solved.

Nope, not just you. I preferred it at that time of day and year too.

I've never really seen any ratings for the programme, I used to get the top 10 or 20 in The Sun years ago, not sure if they still do that. But with so much iPlayer, itvPlayer and other catch-up tv, initial ratings (overnight ratings?) that I do hear about on the forums and other articles are well-down on the ratings from years ago.

Although I've always tried to watch Doctor Who live, it rarely happens and I much prefer the ability to record and watch later.

No, because where do you put a 90-minute edition of Strictly then? Having the longer episodes has proven to bring in big ratings for BBC1, and they're not going to change that just for Doctor Who. The days when BBC1 bent over backwards to accommodate Doctor Who disappeared with the start of series 4.

I suspect BBC1 are not happy with Doctor Who's low live ratings for a Saturday night. Moffat may be orgasmic about them, but BBC1 have their own bigger picture to worry about. If the show's going to move, it'll be before the long edition of Strictly, and they'd probably prefer to avoid a full blown clash with the X-Factor or Britain's Got Talent by moving Strictly later because viewers will complain they're the victims of silly competition, just as they do whenever Eastenders and Coronation Street clash. So that leaves Doctor Who going out much earlier, back to the times of series 4.

And me. I remember at the time feeling that those who were unwaveringly certain that by moving the show later in the year with colder, darker weather, it would massively increase its audience, were very wrong.
