Just been on Asda Direct site, it seems they are only selling LG and their own brand Polaroid models, nothing from Sony, Samsung , Panasonic etc .

If you click on the link in my posting it shows just LG and Polaroid for sale with no mention of other brands that are out of stock which led me to believe they are only stocking these 2 makes.

Why do you want to buy a TV from a company that knows nothing about TVs?

The big supermarkets all got their fingers burned dabbling in AV electronics. So much so that both Tesco and ASDA announced that they were pulling back from electronics retail in general. The problem has been that in the rush to offer something cheap they forgot that cheap often means shoddy, and in electronics, shoddy means that the product comes back to bite them in the butt when it breaks.

If for some reason you can only buy from ASDA, then at least buy the best LG you can afford. LG isn't a great make TBH. They're doing the same cost cutting so LG TVs tend to have a slightly below par reputation for reliability. In the end the saying is true.... You get what you pay for.

Are you seriously expecting a supermarket chain to be offering a full choice of TV brands?

I never said I wanted to buy at TV and doubt if I would buy from a Supermarket. I enjoy trawling the web and looking at sites to see what bargains if any are around.I don't need a TV at present but like to keep up with whats available.I'm happy with my 42" 4 year old Samsung plasma and delighted by my 18 month old Panasonic 32" smart TV

On their Asda Direct website they used to offer a large range of TV brands and screen sizes, hence my original post.If you were considering a new TV where would you recommend.?

Amazon have good prices - as do Richer Sounds. Currys have some decent models at good prices also. And if you have a John Lewis nearby, and they stock the model that you are looking at in either Richer Sounds or Currys, they will price match that other store whilst still offering a five year guarantee (even if the other store doesn't offer five years).

The Sony 60" for £849 looks a good buy at Currys at present.

Seeing people scrapping over Polaroid tv's on black Friday was so depressing.
Such a lack of ambition was painful to watch.
