That's just like them. As soon as someone tries to take them on they are unhappy.
Its like Sky want there own way and its always been that way.
Not that I use Now TV via Youview as I can use Netflix and the old BT film/TV box sets bolt on.
I do agree that Youview needs to be improved a little more.

Some pretty iffy sentiment in that article.

For one thing, you can't get the entertainment selection (or the sport for that matter) on YV Now TV, only the movies. Sky do not have wholesale agreements in place with BT for their own entertainment channels, only with TalkTalk, who Sky have never considered proper competition.

Also the writer says that the YV box technology is "several steps behind the competition", which is utter crap. My BT PVR is a fantastic bit of kit, and though I've seen mixed reviews of TalkTalk's STBs, I'd have thought they'd be bringing new boxes out maybe next year. YouView is a brilliant system as far as I'm concerned, and I for one are happy BT are fully committed to it, despite the numerous obstacles Sky put in the way.

ney is correct that it is just like Sky to throw a spanner in the works when their profits are being threatened from non-Sky customers and services that don't require an expensive and restrictive subscription to their satellite system. However, knowing that both BT and TalkTalk do carry the Sky Movies channels at around double the price of a Now TV movies sub, it's sort of understandable that Now TV movies may leave YV.

I don't subscribe to either Now TV movies nor Sky Movies via BT, but if I were inclined, I'd obviously go with the much cheaper Now TV for the exact same content (plus Now TV have on-demand selections, whereas Sky Movies are just linear channels) on the one YV PVR. My brother gets YV from TalkTalk and I know he gets a lot of offers for half-price Sky Movies, which makes the package more comparable with Now TV, but from what I can tell these are always limited-time offers that go back up to full price after three months.

Though one can always cancel their TalkTalk Movies boost before the half-price term ends. Even so, for those that want them at a fairly reasonable price and with no long contract, Now TV movies on YouView seems the better choice, but if Sky could make more money from the linear channels on YV, stands to reason they're not keen on Now TV remaining on YV.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to this report. SKY are upset because of the slow going of YouView agreeing a way to get the unicast channels working, they need these because thier agreement for the entertainment channels are that they are only allowed to offer them where they have a live broadcast runing also (they can't offer purely on-demand content) and they use unicast delivery for these.

This has been supposedly being worked on for a bit but we all know YouView tend to be a bit slow actually getting things out. Personally I would doubt we would see SKY pull the plug on a revenue stream no matter how small the amount.

Did you read or simply not understand the article.

Sky want to retail a full Now TV service on YouView equipment, and BT probably with the support of the BBC have been blocking the necessary updates.

A £10 Now TV box can deliver the functionality so DO NOT crow about how wonderful Humax's crippled equipment is.

The article was flawed and inaccurate to begin with.

Why wildly speculate that the BBC has anything to do with it? BBC are only a minor shareholder in YV now with barely any control over what happens. BT and TalkTalk are the major players in the YV organisation.

I've got nothing against the Now TV box, Ive been a Roku user for two and a half years now and have always been happy with their technology. I'll crow about anything I rate as excellent, and I rate the BT Humax PVR as such, so put that in your pipe.

Rubbish YOU can't take the TRUTH.

OK I was willing to spread the guilt ... but I'll go along with YOUR assessment that BT are 100% GUILTY of BLOCKING a full retail NOW TV from YouView . Typical of BT's inability to face COMPETITION. e

Humax once made excellent products using high quality components ... BUT not since their move to Poland from Northern Ireland!
