I don't think it would be impossible to keep a new companion under wraps for a few months. Filming doesn't start until January, so the day after the Christmas special the new companion is announced.

I thought for a long time that she wouldn't be in series 9 but now I'm thinking she's going to be in it, that's my guess anyway.

It seems to be the way that just as we get use to a Companion, they are moved on though for some reason I don't like it when they remain across Doctor regenerations. I tend to think of a companion being synonymous with a particular Doctor.

I'd love to see the terrified look on the Doctor's face every time he brushes past him in a suggestive way! It would make great comedy!
And they could have a field day with the whole "companion or *companion*?" play on words! As Nine would say, "Fantastic!"”

^LOL! That would be one way to kill off the series entirely!
I can't think of anything that would have me switching channels faster than a stocky, middle-aged, leather-clad gay man sexually harassing the Doctor!

Not the interview that you rudely demanded, but this is believable all the same.

Yes those "unnamed Insiders" talking to the Mirror are always real and everything they say is believable.

We've had people make up things on this Forum only to have them appear in the tabloids citing them as "an Insider source".

Hardly the Moffat Interview you claimed it was.

Plus that's talking about the Christmas Special being rewritten to accomodate her staying on for Series 9, your original comment was that the Christmas Special had to be rewritten as Jenna changed her mind about leaving between filming Death in Heaven and the Christmas Special.

“as far as I can tell, she was leaving, hence the pretty "final" scene she had with the Doctor in DIH, then she changed her mind and Moffat had to rewrite the Christmas special to include her in it.”

The next issue of DWM is Jenna reflecting on her time in the TARDIS so she most certainly is leaving

In the Chat and Sun Christmas tv listing strong hints she is leaving. Hope she has a happy ending. If she can't be reunited with Danny fall in love with someone new. If it is true she dies an old lady hope she also has at least one child and grandchildren. 12 can visit her and she can say one last time. "Run you clever boy and remember me". Final scene 12 goes to put flowers on her grave. Saying "Rest in peace Clara, my impossible girl". That way he says a proper final goodbye and can move on to his new companion with no guilt or regrets.

I shall regurgitate my Christmas dinner if it goes down like that

That's actually true. They would have to announce it around then to be honest.

I think even if Clara is in some of Series 9, the new companion should still be added at the start of the series as well.

Or the Doctor could be travelling alone?

I wouldn't mind seeing that to be honest as there was far too much Clara in the last season.

I'd rather not see the Doctor travel alone at all to be honest. I'd like the next companion introduced from the start and is travelling with the Doctor full time as well.

I can't think of a single current actor/actress who could fill her shoes.

As someone else said, she's probably a bigger reason for people watching DW than either Peter Capaldi or Matt Smith.”

I'm in no hurry to see Jenna leave, but Ophelia Lovibond is currently ticking all my boxes in Elementary. Very nice Doctor / companion relationship between her and Johnny Lee Miller.
