time travel forward: it's 2017
Mr Seta

So you're in control of a Tardis, aside from all the great events from history (including 1972 to save all the missing episodes/ colour stories), I think a quick trip forward in time would be interesting too.

-Just Who is the Doctor?
-2017 would be a post the usual 3 year stint of a Doctor so we are likely to see someone new by then (barring 18 month breaks..)
-If so, is it a female Doctor as (unsurprisingly) Moffatt hinted at?
-If so are the public going to buy both a female Doctor together with a female Master (assuming Missy is still a "missy" then)?
-Or, maybe a twist might be Missy managing to reverse roles with Capaldi's Doctor? Now that would be interesting -it was pretty straight forward for the Master back in The Keeper of Traken to take a mortal's body.
-Just what's going to happen at the end of the 13th incarnation?
-Are the Time Lords back in their rightful position?
-Will we see the return of another villain/ monster from the original series?
-Now that Peter Jackson has had some spare time, will he have directed a Who story (or more..)?
-Is production of a proper Who movie actually underway?
-Is Steven Moffatt still running the ship?

I've just got Back from the Future, and we are in for interesting times ahead

Heres my Answers
-Just Who is the Doctor? Peter! hes still doing it and still going strong
-2017 would be a post the usual 3 year stint of a Doctor so we are likely to see someone new by then (barring 18 month breaks..) see above
-If so, is it a female Doctor as (unsurprisingly) Moffatt hinted at? See Above,
-If so are the public going to buy both a female Doctor together with a female Master (assuming Missy is still a "missy" then)?
-Or, maybe a twist might be Missy managing to reverse roles with Capaldi's Doctor? Now that would be interesting -it was pretty straight forward for the Master back in The Keeper of Traken to take a mortal's body.
-Just what's going to happen at the end of the 13th incarnation?
-Are the Time Lords back in their rightful position? Yep they returned properly in the special episode to celebrate the revival.
-Will we see the return of another villain/ monster from the original series? The Toymaker came back as the main antagonist of the series
-Now that Peter Jackson has had some spare time, will he have directed a Who story (or more..)? jhe directed the special 10 year anniversery
-Is production of a proper Who movie actually underway? yes and it will star Peter.
-Is Steven Moffatt still running the ship? Unfortunaly moff is still around (nothing agianst him but i think its time the show was given a new EP

Also a 10 year anniversy special aired with Chris,David and Matt all returning to thier roles. with the outcome being Gallifrey being restored to its orignal place. and Moff wrote someting daft where the Daleks from 12's POV completly forget the Time War.

Outside of this forum she's very popular. And she even has her fans on here as well... including me. She's second only to Donna Noble for me...a brilliant companion, Moffat and whoever else involved deserves praise for the casting.

Also incorrect.

Take a look at this average episode viewership.

Series 1: 7.948m
Series 2: 7.715m
Series 3: 7.55m
Series 4: 8.047m
Series 5: 7.729m
Series 6: 7.515m
Series 7: 7.442m
Series 8: 7.263m

Whilst Series 8 has the lowest figure here (just barely) it doesn't take into full account the amount of online viewership or the fact that the show is ever more profitable internationally as well. Only 62% of the audience watches Doctor Who live on average, which is a hell of a shift once the final figures are pieced together around 30 days after a series has finished.

Not enough proof of success?

Average percentage increase from Overnight to BARB figures

S1. 8.9%
S2. 7.5%
S3. 7.3%
S4. 11.8%
S5. 28.9%
S6. 30.6%
S7. 34.6%
S8. 40.5%

Average weekly position:
S1. 7th
S2. 6th
S3. 6th
S4. 5th
S5. 5th
S6. 6th
S7. 6th
S8. 6th

I see nothing but consistency here. It might not be a viewer increase (unless you want to count the international viewership too, for which Series 8 has also done superbly well) but there is nothing here whatsoever that resembles a decline.

(Dismissively) Well, you can prove anything with *facts*.

Hadn't seen the average weekly position figures before. Now that ain't bad approaching 10 years in. Indeed, it's delightfully good.

Can't quite believe it's the 10th C21 Christmas Day episode coming up! According to the latest DWM, that's *consecutively* one more than OFAH. If you'd told me that was going to happen in 2004 I would've rung for the people with the big butterfly nets.

I think this year it's an even bigger triumph for the show to have landed a consistent weekly position. It was with a new Doctor, in a new time-slot and aired at a relatively new time of year (of course the back half of Series 6 was also aired in autumn). Up against the biggest shows on ITV such as The X Factor, which has seen a notable ratings decline compared to previous years even if it is still performing well, it was impressive that it managed to still hold its own, and even manage a decent percentage of the overall audience share too (usually getting just over 20% I think).

Why people try to put the show down without any real evidence (including the red tops) is beyond me. How often does a drama come along, more specifically a sci-fi one, that can sustain a consistent audience in this day and age for 10 years?! It's unheard of... "NuWho" alone has outlasted the likes of The X Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer... probably two of the bigger sci-fi/fantasy shows that filled the Wholess void of the Nineties. And so far it shows no signs of real decline either. It's brilliant!
