Definitely. She's brilliant. I love the whole retro vibe she has going.

My top three are James Otto, Alison Krauss, and LeAnn Rimes.

God bless you and them always!!!

Holly (a fan of Alison for 20 years now)

P.S. Yes, Alison has more Grammy awards than any other female in music history, but she is played very little on the radio if any compared to most singers.

I think Holly Valance had some good bubblegum pop. State Of Mind & Naughty Girl still hold up well.

I agree with P!nk. She is very underrated yet sells bucket loads of albums and singles. Ryan tedder said she was the top female of 2013 internationally but is still overlooked.

She sounds better live then on her recorded songs.

Cher's 60s and 70s stuff is surely her best 'I got You Babe' is iconic and her solo songs like 'Bang, Bang' and 'Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves'' show off that distinctive deep voice.
As for the 90s, you could blame Cher for the popularity of autotune after the success of 'Believe'?

I agree about Beverly Knight and Nicola Roberts although Roberts is progressing as a writer.

Hudson is a natural and might have languished like some of those listed below if not for US idol and 'Dream Girls'.

Thanks for the list. All great vocalists but largely unrecognised, can I add the magnificient Lisa Fischer -
http://youtu.be/u6Xpj0Eag_c
And one of my fav women of all time, Merry Clayton - Southern Man

Is there a pattern here?

The artists mentioned by the OP have all had massively successful careers over a considerable period. What more recognition do they need? Dolly Parton should probably be more thought of as a writer and a blue grass performer than is mentioned.

I would suggest everyone watch '20 Feet from Stardom' and you might get a better idea about what it means to be underrated.

Laura Nyro had a beautiful, soulful voice that still doesn't get the attention it deserves. Lissie has a very strong and full voice. Imogen Heap's voice is a mixture of Kate Bush and vintage Joni Mitchell.

P!nk (deserves a lot more awards and recognition)
Shakira
Paloma Faith
Cher
Dolly Parton
Enrique Eglesias
The Script”

How can Cher and Dolly Parton be perceived as underrated? These are 2 world famous women who have been highly successful for over 4 decades in both music, tv and in the case of Cher, film.

Cher had a no 1 hit in the US, and top 5 hit in the UK from 1971

Jimi Hendrix was probably one of the most underrated singers of all time.

The three that come to mind for me have all been mentioned.

Pink - if anyone doubts her as a vocalist, Youtube some of her acoustic performances of Perfect and Who Knew. She is phenomenal.

Kelly Clarkson - I think she gets more credit from her peers and fellow singers than she does from the general public, outside of her fanbase. She can literally sing anything, even that proverbial phonebook everyone goes on about.

Nicole Scherzinger - she has an outstanding voice. I think people don't pay attention to it as The Pussycat Dolls music wasn't exactly groundbreaking, and her solo career hasn't been as succesful as it could be. But songs such as ArmenJena and Run showcase her voice excellently. I heard an audio of her performaing Memory, and it sounding amazing! I'm seeing her in it next month, I can't wait!

Another one that came to mind is JC Chasez from NSync. His voice is amazing, and he is by far the more talented singer and musician, in my opinion, out of him and Justin.

I actually think that Dolly Parton and Cher are overrated, if anything.

Oh, and Cher's first top five solo hit in the UK was not "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" in 1971, it was this classic in 1966:-

Cher - Bang Bang

Best solo track she ever recorded by a country mile (imo) - can't stand her 80s and 90s stuff.
