Underrated Singers?

I think bands like The Kooks and The Strokes are under-rated. Even earlier from the 90s', bands like Cast, Shed Seven and The Lemonheads.

Although she's a big name, I always thought Bonnie Tyler is highly under-rated. A lot of her singles and albums were never hits in the UK. She had a no.1 in France in 2003, and a radio hit in Germany in 2005, but most people in Britain think she retired in the '80s.

I like this song from her latest album, which flopped again, but the country singer Gareth Brooks is currently having success with it:

Tulisa is the most underrated singer. Her voice is fantastic. If you don't believe me then youtube her covers of Time After Time and Stay With Me.

I know we haven't heard from her in forever, but Stacie Orrico deserved more recognition. I still love More To Life

Laura Marling has a lovely voice but doesn't get too many headlines.

I just listened to these...they're awful. I was at a festival in 2012 and while waiting for another act to perform, we had to endure Tulisa's set first. It was absolutely horrific. Her voice was terrible, her singing was awful, dancing. Everything about it was terrible.

I think Sara Bareilles is definitely underrated,, she is only now getting more recognition thanks to a huge hit Brave.

She can sing ANYTHING, truly one of the best female singers of today and on top of that she writes all of her songs. Plus, her covers she performs live are also amazing:

Chasing The Sun (original)

Chandelier (Sia cover)

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Elton John cover)

And I agree about Pink - she is very successful and brilliant performer but I think her voice is truly amazing, that can be heard particularly now on Roseave album.

Oh, and Cher's first top five solo hit in the UK was not "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" in 1971, it was this classic in 1966:-

Cher - Bang Bang

Best solo track she ever recorded by a country mile (imo) - can't stand her 80s and 90s stuff.”

Never implied that Gypsies was Cher's first solo hit record. Of course she had 'solo' hits in the 60s but they were very much releases on the back of the very successful Sonny and Cher act.. To all intent and purposes it was really Sonny and Cher without Sonny Bono's singing. Eg Bang, Bang was written, arranged and produced by Sonny. It wasn't until 1971 that Cher cut loose musically from husband Sonny as a solo artist. So 'Gypsies' was her first solo single where she stood and could be judged on her own merit. rather than Sonny pulling the strings..

P!nk (deserves a lot more awards and recognition)
Shakira
Paloma Faith
Cher
Dolly Parton
Enrique Eglesias
The Script”

Totally agree with The Script and Pink

Corey Taylor.

To a lot of people, he's just "the shouty lead singer" of Slipknot, but when he's not doing the heavier stuff, his voice is absolutely awesome. Songs like 'Zzyzx Rd' by his other band Stone Sour prove it.

I truly hope her big break is yet to come. I think it is amazing Grammy nominated Blessed Unrest as the Album of The Year, she was the underdog of the awards but well deserved one.

But then again, she is that kid of artist who loves what she does, she is not worried about popularity, so I don't think she even craves for huge exposure. She can easily do small gigs forever and be over the moon about it and that is why I love her.

It's a shame that Calvin Harris fiddled around with his vocals and made them sound so electronic on Under Control.

For me it's Pixie Lott, Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson.

I saw her but it was an outdoor venue. Will hopefully see her indoor sometime.

Teddy Thompson has a nice tone and you don't hear much about him.

I have always thought the late great Steve Marriott was a very underrated singer! This is worth a listen to in my humble opinion - the backing singers are pretty good too:

The most underrated singers are Ryan Key out of Yellowcard and Patrick Stump out of Fall Out Boy. Unlike the already overrated Pink.

Pink may be overrated artist in your eyes but no one actually talks about her voice, only how she is a talented performer. So no, she isn't a overrated singer. I mean, just listen to these live performances, no one can deny her voice is very powerful and she sings with such ease:
