Yes, it's mad to take a bunch of celebs and make them ski jump.

Yes. Totally irresponsible. I thought Tumble and that circus one were too dangerous, but this is far,far worse.
Poor Ola.

Hopefully it's the press making a mountain out of a molehill as is their wont. As it happened on an indoor ski slope it will with luck have been a relatively slow speed she was going when she fell. It never looks too fast seeing people come down the indoor slopes compared to outdoor snow covered hills to me. I hope she has a speedy recovery.
I guess it puts paid to all those rumours about her being prenant though.

I really hope the press are wrong on how serious her injuries are. Whatever has happened I hope she gets well really soon.

The absolute worst show to go on if shes still working as a dancer
I read on here that her and her husband were planning on a tour

I hope the press is exaggerating her injuries a lot. Poor Ola!!

Whilst not wishing her any harm and hoping she is ok, tis an excellent excuse for her to 'bow out' of SCD and saving face

What an odd programme for a professional dancer to attempt.

I would have thought anything that involved the risk of injury would have been a complete 'no no'

You could certainly have a really nasty accident at the indoor snow slope at Hemel Hempstead.
Agreed you wouldn't be travelling as fast as you might be outdoors but I have seen broken legs, hips and a fractured spine at virtually nil speeds over the many years I have been skiing.

I really hope Ola gets well soon and that her injuries are not as serious as indicated in the papers but Jump is the silliest programme and, as had, been said, someone could be killed so it's really not worth the personal self promotion or the money which is the only reason for taking part.

She isn't going to risk her entire career as a dancer by doing that deliberately. I, too, hope that her injuries are not as bad as reported. I also echo the view that The Jump is a fundamentally dangerous show. Ski jumping for novices? I ask you!. What are they going to try next? Formula 1 for non-drivers?

Ola could well have damaged or severed her anterior cruchiate ligament which evidently can easily be done when skiing even slowly (it happened with my mother when we had a family skiing holiday a number of years ago - probably 20 years ago now - and at the time the surgeon in Austria said he did at least one ACL operation a day).

I have no real idea why she would have decided to put herself (and possibly her career) at so much risk for a silly show like this.

I wish her well and hope she recovers as quickly as possible, whatever the problem.

I really hope the tabloids are exaggerating this and I wish Ola well.

Skiing is one of Darcey's hobbies even though she is still a dancer and I remember seeing an interview with Carlos Acosta where he described himself as an adrenalin junkie who also loved winter sports. I know a couple of professional ballet dancers and one of them goes horse-riding on her days off. It always surprises me when someone who has a career that they love but which can be ended by a broken limb has hobbies which increase that risk. Having said that another friend of mine fell down three steps at home and broke her leg so badly she has to permanently use a walking stick. A dancer could drive themselves mad thinking of all the accidents that could happen, so maybe it's better to just live your life.

You don't have to be going fast to damage your legs though. I really hope it's realtively straightforward and come-back-fromable but she could still be in for a lot of rehab. Poor Ola. Fingers crossed it's something and nothing.

This is a Mirror article, remember. It probably means she has a serious fake tan abrasion that needs attention.

What a strange show to take part in when an injury could end your own career and limit your husband's. Does Strictly not ban dancers from activities like this while the series is still ongoing?

Hopefully its not as serious as implied by the paper - if it was you would think the statement from Channel 4 might be a bit less abrupt and at least wish her well in her recovery etc.

That's what you get for mindlessly chasing fame.

How awful. I truly hope it's not as bad as it reads, and this is the gutter press trying to rake in page clicks.

I'm amazed that she was able to do this, though - surely she's contracted to SCD until the series finishes next week, and presumably there'd be a clause in there about working for competitors at the same time, especially when it could jeopardise fulfillment of her SCD contract? I know contracts for sportspersons (which rely on them being physically fit in order to fulfill their contractual obligations) often include a clause that bans participation in extreme sports (which ski-jumping arguably is) for the duration of the contract.

That's one way to put it. I'm sure it's got a bit more to do with getting an income, paying the mortgage. It's easy for most of us on a regular salary to turn up our noses at some of the jobs they take, but you have to remember they don't know where or when their next pay packet will come from or what they can do to keep up an income till retirement. it's similar to an actors life only worse...your shelf life as a dancer is so much shorter.

I wish her well but I didn't think that her career would go downhill this fast!

Is James ranting yet?
