Translation - someone you dares to tell the TRUTH.
Translation - offers superior service at lower prices. BT milked everyone until Sky came along and drove down prices for phone and BB services. Back on topic, does anyone know the current situation regarding SS1 & 2 on BT YouView? Is it fully up and running now? I hope so, more choice is always good. |

What would be the point you show no desire to learn!
The simple fact will not enter into competition with Sky on FRND terms. They DO NOT wholesale to Sky to force Sky customers to supply their details to BT. Your notion that Sky would not offer BT Sport at a competitive price underlines you mindset. One would surmise from your incessant fanboying: yes. Can you get BT Sport on Sky Digital? Yes. I ask again, exactly what is your problem here? |

You have to admit though, you rarely post about anything not involving Sky or their competitors and it's always pro-Sky and anti-the rest... Sky troll as suggested? Probably not. Sky fanboi? Maybe...

Yes, it's up and running now. We subscribed last month and the channels were switched on within a couple of hours on our YouView box.
The picture is better than the equivalent SD versions on Sky and Virgin IMO. Mind you, the picture should be better than satellite or freeview SD because BT's TV Connect multicast, premium quality SD (which they use IIRC with FTTC & P connections) is encoded in h.264/AVC main profile level 3 at 3Mbps CBR. This codec is generally accepted to be more than twice as efficient as mpeg2 used by satellite and classic terrestrial DTV so it's equivalent to more than 6 Mbps and that is as near as dammit DVD quality! BT should promote this aspect more, as it's a good selling point for some people who like me won't pay extra for HD. |

Perhaps the best we can hope for is BT (and the others) to successfully bid for the lions share of Premier League, which would subsequently see Sky's dominance diminish and for them to drop their wholesale prices and platform restrictions for the greater good of the entire industry.
Sky's dominance isn't the problem. it's the total lack of any cooperation between most of these companies. It doesn't matter where the lions share of the premier league goes. Sky won't fully wholesale to BT because BT won't do the same. the only thing competition seems to have done is hike up the prices dramatically. BT must of boggled UEFA's minds with that bid for European club football, and you know starting next season your going to pay extra. Sky where shocked into bidding high in the second round of Premer league rights last time. and you can bet your ass they will again maybe BT will bid much higher too. The sad thing is the only winner will be the premier league, it doesn't matter who bids the most any more the costs get passed on. Sky's wholesale price will go up if necessary as will the BT sport sub , which I heavily doubt can be subsidised by BT retail phoneline/broadband sales much longer. The worry is how long is the spiralling costs going to continue before something breaks. This comes from a paying customer to Sky and BT ( though BT not sure how much longer ) . |

How do you go about adding these to your subscription and how much does it cost? No info on BT website.

You have to have an hour or so to spare to make sure you understand everything, options and prices etc... it's not the easiest system to follow and I went back to the beginning several times before I was sure what all the various options and prices would be. Then you have to work out what it will do to your Sky subscription if you are (like me) keeping a cut-down version for a while - and that's just as messy as the BT website! BT TV are currently providing the extra 20 "Entertainment" channels for no extra cost i.e. £5 a month total, same price as the basic bundle, for 12 months. That means my total risk (if I discover that it's all crap) is £35 sign-on fee plus £60 in subscriptions (12 month contract). I have just ordered BT Youview and cancelled Sky Sports from my Sky TV. They offered me £11 off for 3 months! Would have lost my legacy £ 4.50 discount on the Entertainment package though, so I declined their kind offer as I will keep Entertainment until I have sussed out BT's Youview service. Net saving £19.50 a month and still saving £3 a month if (IF) I later decide to subscribe to SS1 on BT. Viva competition!

Sky Sports 1&2 are available on BT TV and the best thing about it is BT make a loss of at least £2.50 a month on every customer. So please please all BT customers sign up to Sky Sports on BT...

Problem with your wish is that first, customers will have BT line rental, phone, broadband/fibre and BT TV... and I am sure they make a satisfactory profit on the bundles. Having SS1&2 is just a loss-leader. From the customer's point of view, we can now get a season's PL football and a Youview PVR at over £20/month less than getting PL football on the Sky platform and that is simply brilliant.
If they don't start charging for BT Sports or reduce wholesale prices Ofcom will take action. BT line rental, phone, broadband/fibre and BT TV little difference in cost to Sky's charges ... SO nothing gained and BT make that LOSS ON EVERY CUSTOMER... for 2 out of 7 channels! |

BT have been found guilty of being on the brink of retail-wholesale margin squeezing by Ofcom, despite squealing to Ofcom for months.

I don't give a flying fig if BT, Sky or anyone make a loss on bits of their packages (as they all do) as long as I have more choices to save money. Viva la competition!
![]() ![]() On the other hand I CAN OBJECT to BT over charging on wholesale BB and phone, and paying for your discounts by passing the costs onto wholesale customers.

Those are currently cheaper than the equivalent unlimited fibre + line rental + phone packages from Sky, so yes, by adding SS1&2 via BT TV I can save about, or more than, £20 a month. If Sky up their game in a year's time, I shall consider switching back to them. Ahhhh the pleasures of true competition...
![]() Sky, however, well..
