Metallica and Lou Reed - Lulu

I like Metallica, I like Lou Reed.

I like curry, I like custard, I don't want them both on the same plate.

I'm gonna try that and see what I come out with:

Hold It Against Me - Britney Spears
My Baby - Britney Spears
Big Fat Bass (ft will.i.am) - Britney Spears
You & I - Lady Gaga
Firework - Katy Perry
Unconditionally - Katy Perry
Disco Love - The Saturdays
Just Can't Get Enough - The Saturdays

That's just a few! I'm finding it hard to pick songs

Found this piece of information on the web:-

The song "Baby, One More Time" by Britney Spears was apparently used as a torture technique by the CIA.”

I saw that and I was shocked I'm finding it hard to listen to that song at the moment.

Cher as a solo artist (I like Sonny and Cher)
Contemporary R'n'B (although I love original R'n'B, i.e. Rhythm 'n' Blues from the 40's, 50's and 60's)
Most power ballads
70's/80's Soul (although I love 60's Soul)
70's Disco music
All Dance music since Disco
Hip Hop
Whitney, Mariah, Beyonce and all their imitators
Modern music generally.”

That will do for me, although I'd definitely include Justin Hayward.

Anything with processed/synthesised/modulated vocals.
Any track which has "feat" in the title.
Very nearly anything by men with beards.

So from bands/artists I like

Prince - The most beautiful girl in the world or Sexy MF
Oasis - Wonderwall
Pet Shop Boys - What Have I Done to Deserve This
Madonna - La Isla Bonita

listening to those songs once is hard enough.

I've already given my top 10 most torturous songs, and they're all by artists I can't stand. I notice others have given their top 10 torturous songs by artists they like, so I will too.

Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
You Can't Always Get What You Want - The Rolling Stones
Maria - Blondie
Revolution 9 - The Beatles
Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley
Everyday I Write The Book - Elvis Costello
Young Americans - David Bowie
Who Are You - The Who
Hounds Of Love - Kate Bush
Nothing Has Been Proved - Dusty Springfield

Interesting.

My favourite Oasis track by a country mile and the just about the only Madonna track that I've ever liked.

Agree that the other two tracks (Prince and PSB) are torturous though.

Pearl Jam - Hey Foxymophandlemama That's Me.

Aqua - Barbie Girl
Cher - Believe
Steps - 5,6,7,8
Timmy Mallet - Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini
Joe Dolce - Shaddap You Face
Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart

These on a constant loop would have me confessing to anything they accused me of pretty quickly, but for all those records, there's one that could probably do it quicker:

The Tweets - The Birdie Song

The chorus from Paloma's Only Love Can Hurt Like This, where she goes up an octave is torture to my ears. I won't endure it if i have any sort of choice.

most people are just listing songs they don't like, which isn't really the point

the songs are intended to be used as mental torture, so the most repetitive tracks with an annoying hook that you can't get out your head, or something like thrash metal that does your head in

ideally you would want to simply loop the most annoying/repetitive part of a track, and to make it worse, normalise the volume so its brickwalled and the bass distorts, then add annoying glitches and skips at random

So it's either Whigfield's 'Saturday night' or the start to Pink Floyd's 'Astronomy Domine' from 'Umma Gumma'* then

* the keyboard into

That's the criteria I used for picking my list, they're all very repetitive with very annoying hooks. It's merely coincidence that I also don't like those songs.

listening to picts on repeat would easily drive anyone nuts after a short period. or any solo effort by any drummer from a band. what percentage of pink Floyd fans really want a nick mason solo album? can numbers go that low?

She is a little lady who sings with enormous passion and that's what I, and many others, like about her. Her live performance on the BBC proms was magical but some other live performances, especially the recent ones on the Jonathan Ross show and Strictly would have benefited from more compression.
She mainly sings her own songs but Only love can hurt like this and Leave when I'm not looking were written by Diane Warren and have a more abrasive style.

Can't count 'Fictitious Sports' as it's really a Carla Bley album, but his stuff with Rick Fenn is pleasant enough, in a low key way, and the other albums with Mike mantler have their moments.

Qucik, back on topic - Tony Conrad - 'Outside the Dream Syndicate'. It's like a 10 second loop anyway

basshunter -Now You're Gone

Fleetwood Mac - Albatross
Dream Academy - Life In A Northern Town
Katie Melua - Take your pick, they're all the same
Vangelis - Chariots of Fire
Trio - Da Da Da
Laurie Anderson - Oh Superman
Wings - Mull of Kintyre

Every one of these tracks - with the possible exception of the last - just don't GO anywhere. Repetitive, plodding shite that think repeating three of four musical phrases a hundred times constitutes a 'song'.

Well, they don't - look at Pearl Jam 'Alive', U2 'With Or Without You' or 'One', or 'Lightning Crashes' by Live for examples of how such songs should be done, building to a proper climax rather than just tedious repetition followed by a limp exit...

Anything distorted. My wife has just bought Wanted On Voyage (CD) by George Ezra. The singing is fine but sadly it is loud and distorted throughout.

My choices:

Umbrella (or anything by her) - Rihanna
Blurred Lines - Robin Thick ft Pharrell
That's what makes you Beautiful - One Direction
I Love it - Icona Pop
Stupid Hoe - Nicki Minaj
Trumpets - Jason Derulo
Girlfriend - Avril Lavigne
Firework/I Kissed a girl/Roar/California Girls - Katy Perry
You Oughta Know/Ironic - Alanis Morisette
My Humps - Black Eyed Peas

I'd have lost my mind/sanity by the time these have been played.
Horrible songs.
