Yeah to be fair he doesn't seem a bad songwriter but his voice is awful. I agree Zayn is the star vocally and definitely looks wise.

Because vocally, he's awful. That's the need in that.
I think people need to give 1D a bit more credit for how hard they work. This time is actually meant to be their "break" yet they are flying here there and everywhere doing performances, promo and award shows. IMO they are being worked into the ground and sadly I would not be surprised if some of them have turned to drugs to cope with the strain. 
Anyway it's been a token criticism for ages that they look bored, all hate each other blah blah but you can tell they all really enjoyed that performance tonight. I think they're finally loving the music they are playing and it shows.

I thought they all looked very into it tonight. That's the sparkiest I've seen Zayn in a while but I think a lot of what I saw as unhappiness is actually him trying to be cool and smouldering for the camera. Plus being tv-camera shy. He also looked very beautiful and well put together - the gel in his hair is to slick it back not because he hasn't washed. His complexion is way too perfect to have a destructive substance abuse problem.
Louis was also very engaged in the performance and has cleaned himself up. All 5 of them looked great, Niall did a very good job opening it. The group hug at the end felt genuine, Zayn was beaming.
That said, if any of them are unhappy it would be tricky to quit because they have another huge stadium tour coming up. Don't feel too sorry for them though as they'll be lounging around hotel pools in Thailand and Dubai. If they were desperate to end 1D they wouldn't have added another leg to the tour, they are rich enough without it (and cancelling is expensive).
