Just watched....... Around the Beatles... filmed in April 64 for ITV

Bizarrely it opened with the Beatles in full costume, playing a scene from Shakespeare...

scaffolding around the stage.... Sounds Incorporated...
3 dancers come rushing in....... Long John Baldry sings a couple of songs,
P J Proby... The Ladybirds do a number...

No break to the songs ... the 3 dancers come whirling back in...
the Beatles by this point are watching the show from up on the scaffolding.

Its all pretty frantic until Cilla calms things down with Youre My World.

The Beatles finally came on to sing a medley..... there are wires from their guitars
leading across the floor, but no sign of any amps

I think the whole show was mimed , or at least instrumental back up tracks.

Dont think that the Sounds Inc guys were actually playing those saxophones.

But a great TV pop show that went around the TV world...... black and white of course !

You might want to watch their 'surreal' movie then, 'A Hard Day's Night' from 1964.
It's got old Steptoe in it.

I've never heard of Around the Beatles......

looking at it now on YouTube......

I think in the early days they weren't quite sure what to do with the lads........how to expand beyond coming on and doing a two minute pop song

this is........different !

They did a few fooling around type things, like this appearance with Helen Shapiro .......

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUBkM3Le6w4

the two films that came out fairly quickly, Help and Hard Days Night......were really good but they were really good because they had really great pop songs in them......I think the lads soon gave up any idea of being clowns.......
