The ban PLT website has upgraded for 2014 with a new EU petition which we should all sign.
Note Norway has been added to countries banning some PLT products.

Why should we all sign it?.....I'll leave it to you and the other few idiots who will sign it.....I think every petition on the subject has been massively ignored - as it should be.
Looks like that petition has been up in Europe since march and is struggling along.....Still under 10,000, which for a Eurowide petition is pathetic.

Exactly - there's almost zero problems, and almost zero people concerned about it - and all those either hams or SWL's.

Isn't this a "bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted" type scenario. Even more so in this case as the horse has long since turned up in boxes of burgers in Tesco's freezers and the stable demolished to make way for a development of "luxury apartments"

I seriously doubt this petition will achieve anything.

It does not matter who or what they are. No matter how few the complaints, any device that deliberately causes interference to others should be banned from the market.

Have you actually read the link?

Even for those few cases of actual interference that have been reported I do not think it was being done "deliberately".

AM radios, can you still get the valves for those things?

Wow - not much of an agenda....;

"Why should you care about causing interference to a small group of radio users? Why should you care that those radio users may be disabled and only have use of their Amateur radio or CB radio kit to keep in touch with friends and family? Why should you care that someone may have invested considerable time and money (anywhere between £100 and £10,000) in learning how to use radio correctly? Why should you care about the issues of a minority?

Lets put the shoe on the other foot...

Why should we care if your child goes missing and you need people with radio to help find them? Why should we care if you need urgent medical assistance, but the Ambulance service radios are jammed? Why should we care if our legal radio equipment wipes out your television, FM radio or DAB radio? Why should we care about you if you do not care about us?
"

Why should we care if our ALSO legal PLT gear gives you a problem with your HOBBY?

Does PLT interfere with the secure TETRA radio system used by Police et al.... Ermmm, NO. I smell BS and scare tactics in very poor taste - SHAME ON YOU!

Erm, they not heard of <gasp> telephones then, or <gasp again> mobile telephones - like amateur/CB radios but useful...?

"Deliberate interference", really? So I can petition to ban my nextdoor-but-one neighbours' array of "Amateur" Radio aerials coz they upset my TV and he wont pay for high and/or low pass filters for me?? Oh, they're legal(!), well so is my PLT gear - boo-hoo.

I think his call-sign is G3SelfishTosserWithNoLife, do you know him??

CQ, CQ, CQ a life. Oh dear, maybe it's a bit too DX to find....

I think anyone who continues to post ad nauseum, what is clearly expressing an unsupported opinion by a massive amount should be banned from posting the self same rubbish.

You are deliberately interfering with our right to discuss topics that actually are worth talking about.

Do you post about how your candidate in a free and fair election got it wrong and continue to post what the majority vote for should be ignored ?

Can you imagine what would happen if your bizarre idea that PLT was actually banned would happen ?

It would take decades to sort out the law suits. The horse has left the stable, give it a rest and find a new soapbox.

Careful chaps. Much more of this and Winston_1 will have your posts removed as offensive. And try to have YOU banned as well.

The amateur radio users do have a point in that the PLT devices may be interfering with their use of their licenced spectrum, which isn't much different to someone firing up a transmitter and deliberately interfering.

Not sure how practical a ban could ever be though, people aren't going to unplug the equipment they've paid for unless there's something forcing them to (like an Ofcom heavy in their house) or there being some refund scheme.

Personally I won't ever use the things, I've never been impressed with the performance and I'd rather find a way to make WiFi work or a way to run cat5 - cheaper too and guaranteed gigabit is much nicer than 50Mbit, maybe if the wind is blowing in the right direction

A pie is defined by the OED as "A baked dish of fruit, or meat and vegetables, typically with a top and base of pastry."

For too long customers in pubs and restaurants have ordered what is described on the menu as a pie only to find the restaurant is exploiting this vague language and will actually serve a casserole in a pot covered by a puff pastry lid.

It does not matter who or what they are. No matter how few the complaints, any pie that deliberately lacks a bottom should be banned from the market.

Fortunately since the invention of the internet we now have a powerful means of communication at our disposal. So throw away those AM radios; get yourself a modem; dial up and connect to this site to register your disgust http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/64629

This petition urges the implementation of criminal sanctions upon the owners of food outlets that serve items described as pies without a pastry base*

*Exemptions will apply for Shepherds, Cottage and Fish Pies.

If you have interference from amateur radio you can contact Ofcom and if the amateur is at fault he will be taken off air. If you have poor equipment that overloads in the presence of strong signals they won't help of course, you will need to contact the retailer that sold you the poor gear. Same applies to interference from a local PMR user.

Homeplugs on the other hand deliberatly transmit on other peoples allocations, there is no spectrum allocation for them. If you read my origional link you will see many of them do not even conform to the specifications, i.e. They are not legal.

In national emergencies like 911 telephones and mobiles do and did fail. HF radio was the only communications means.

Re : disabled and CB radio - ain't you guys getting reality and C&W songs confused. Anyone remember the Red Sovine trucker song call Teddy Bear? The little guy's daddy died in a truck wreck in the blinding snow, and he used his daddy's CB to talk to the good ol' boys. It had the immortal line

'But you see I get lonely, and it helps to talk
'Cause that's about all I can do, I'm crippled and I can't walk'

a classic, of sorts . . .

Incorrect. The emergency services radio's also worked..........So, did most of the landlines, apart from those physically broken obviously.
