Is it possible to connect a wireless speaker to an lg smart tv so that the sound comes out of both the tv inbuilt speaker and the wireless speaker. If so can anyone recommend a specific model. Thanks

Does your TV have a headphone/audio_out socket? - where you can set it to do both speakers and headphones at the same time (LG tend to be very poor in the headphone socket department).

The tv has a speaker/headphone outlet but dont know how to tell if sound will come out of tv and external speaker at the same time?

Simply plug something into the headphone socket. Anything will do, as long as it isn't a short circuit.

If it's anything like my LG telly though it's an either or situation, ie either speakers or headphones.

Check the instructions - on Sony sets you have menu options to set the socket to do what you want - but I suspect LG may be far more limited.

With my LG the sound output menu has options for TV Speakers, Optical, Headphones and a couple of others. All as either/or options, ie can't select both TV Speakers and Headphones at the same time.

The LG TV may have a SCART socket which includes audio out (originally designed to connect to a VCR). Just need an adaptor lead. This should be active regardless of any audio output settings.

The SCART output is very likely to be fixed to the TV tuner/decoder output. Which would be OK if all you ever do is watch live Freeview TV but not so good if you want to watch Satellite TV, playback a recording from a PVR or watch a DVD/Blu-Ray.

And it will be fixed level, not affected by the TV volume control, which could be a tad inconvenient if the OP wants to control the speaker volume from the TV remote alone.

The only other audio output on most LG TVs I've looked at is the optical digital out. That does carry audio from all external devices as well as the built in tuner. And on my TV there is an option to link it to the TV remote volume control as well.

Trouble is that would require an external digital to analogue converter box to interface with the wireless speaker transmitter unit.

On my Samsung it is always the current source. On my old Panny CRT there was a setting to switch it to one of the external sources.

I've had dealings with several LG TV's over the years and pretty certain that the most recent models I've set up had SCART outputs from the tuner only.

Just double checked with the manual for my TV and it's worse than I thought. If you are watching DTV you get the DTV channel output on SCART. If you are watching anything else (HDMI, AV phonos, Component phonos) you get Analogue TV, or would if there were any analogue channels to receive.
