As I said in my post further up the thread, it was the cameraman's fault that A and J blocked her out.

We were there Saturday night and she performed really well. I'm not particularly keen on her but she sounded great. They asked her to sing again - once more a good performance. Aliaz and Janette were fantastic to watch (right in front of us ) although having watched the recording back when I got home I found the background of lights, singers and PF very distracting and certainly didn't enjoy their performance as much. I wonder if there was a sound recording issue on the night, hence the 2nd take. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard it at home - thought my DVD recorder was on the blink
Very strange considering (now that I can compare) Dave Arch & Co sound even better live in the studio than on telly.

Having said that.... I wasn't that keen on that version of the song. I much prefer the usual one. But I think that Paloma did great. It was the whole set-up with the dancers and the song choice that didn't really work.”

I have to agree that the whole set up/song/dance didn't work. Individually great though.
Regarding the cheering at dance moves/lifts, we were asked to do this to add excitement and like performing seals we behaved as requested. Just throw me another fish!!

Actually I'm a total music lover, albeit classical, film and big band/jazz rather than pop, but am the first to applaud a good singer e.g. Shirley Bassey, who is a supreme artist (and that's why she's lasted over 50 years as a singer !!) I doubt we shall be hearing Paloma in 50 years time, based on that dire rendition on Saturday!! I find loads of music and singers extremely pleasing - but not shockingly awful ones like Paloma's effort on Saturday - for whatever reason. It was dire. Interesting post (above) about how much better it was live, so maybe the recording went sadly wrong. But she's no Dame Shirley! I agree, Boy George was dire too.

Thanks amelia for the info . I just knew those producers and their henchmen the floor managers, are responsible for all this mindless jeering .

My first choice of music these days also is Classical, Opera, Jazz but I enjoy good singing no matter what the form .

I completely disagree with your first post . I'm not a fan of Paloma although I've heard her on Jool's programme and I thought her performance was first rate . She was perfectly in tune and I enjoyed that song . Well done Paloma in spite of that ridiculous dancing and those producer induced mindless jeering .

To me, what I heard was most definitely not in tune (and I teach piano, so do have a good ear.) I just thought Paloma was awful, as did many others on here. But yes, some people say they liked her. So I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. At least we agree that we enjoy all types of music and singing!

Not the worst,no,but I don't remember who was.
The mind has a way of blocking out things it can't deal with.

Wasn't keen on her but Andrea Begley last year was worse.

Agree. I cannot fathom how she is deemed a good singer. Her whole pretend eccentric persona is beyond annoying as is her ickle girly voice. She was dire on SCD, one of the worst and that's saying something when you consider Barry Manilow and Diva Lennox

I've always thought PF was cr@p in the past and she lived up to my expectations. Putrid.

Very disappointing. I had told my OH how great she is, and now he thinks I am mad. Actually I can't think of a really good act this year. I didn't even think Shirley Bassey cut the mustard. It is painful to see artistes one used to admire, like Andy Williams last year, so far over the hill. I want to say "Please don't ! Leave us with our memories".

Oh I so agree. Some of the acts, in fact MOST of the singing acts on the Result Show have been dire. I go and make a cup of tea now or pre-record the show as I cannot stand all the messing about when all I want to know is who has been voted out of the show!! The interviews with Claudia are always the same "I did not expect to get through", "The waiting to hear your name is awful", "Cannot believe I have made it to the semi-final, final or whatever"!!!! What is the point????

I was so disappointed with Boy George, McBusted, etc etc Gaga and Tony were awful. Barry Manalow singing with his plastic non moving face! Bizarre All this desperate hanging on to youth is so pathetic.

Hilarious, no doubt if you refuse to "perform" you are kicked out!! Are the "standing ovations" masterminded by the producers too??? Its all going very Hollywood for the BBC!!!

I understand the ovations are choreographed!

You overlooked Annie Lennox murdering something (I've erased it from my memory banks,) and the fact that Manilow opted to do a duet with a legend sadly no longer with us. Quite bizarre to see a bloke who looked like he has been embalmed singing with an actual dead person!

But, in a highly competitive worst singer of series contest, Boy George takes the title with ease!

I now go for a tie, after reading others' comments and having a 'revision think', Boy George and Paloma. But to be honest almost all have been dire. Dame Shirley was the only one who really had me smiling.

Andy Williams was under the hill last year - he died in 2012.

So, the sound was a little muffled perhaps - but still better than Boy George!

For those of you who particularly enjoyed 'Tony Gaga', there's a programme late Friday night featuring their whole album of Great American Song book massacres!

I am a big fan of the songs, and she can sing (when she's not too busy shouting,) so I will record it and see if anything can be salvaged. although based on what we heard a few weeks ago, I am not optimistic.
