I haven't heard or read how Ola is. Does any one know anything? she's my favourite pro and I'm missing her.

Now do we have a doctor in the house?? Whilst I wish the woman no ill nor do I have an axe to grind with her (I can take her or leave her tbh) but I was gobsmacked to read she has 'torn knee ligaments' !!! Excuse me, but I have had torn knee ligaments and although medicine and treatment has improved in the 20 years since I did mine, I most certainly wasn't walking out of hospital just a few days later with just a kneebrace and crutches.. She didn't even appear to have any strappings on the knee. I spent 6 months in full plaster and was on crutches for 8 months. I must admit mine was a tad more than just plain ligaments but I find it hard to believe she has torn hers. |

I had my cruciate ligaments repaired a few years ago, and I walked out of the hospital the same evening with a heavily strapped knee and on a walking stick ( crutches were offered).
I was back to work a week later, with no walking aids |

Some long term problems for a dancer I would imagine. Hope she makes a full recovery.

It would be good if the BBC allowed her to make some sort of appearance at the final even if not dancing, could help maintain their relationship with her for future series of Strictly.

Wow! Really! Don't doubt you for a moment and am very impressed.
They were repaired arthroscopically, so only 3 wee holes in my leg to deal with. The strapping (very wide elastic bandage) was cumbersome, and stopped me bending the knee for a day or two so stairs were difficult, but not impossible, so I adopted the Grand Old Duke of York system... When I went downstairs I was there for the day, and only came upstairs again at bedtime. All that said, for the first few days, it was a case of moving gently and getting stronger each day. I was driving again after 5 days, and back to work in a week! |

She won't be in future series of Strictly. Doing something that had the potential for injury, especially getting ready for employment by another channel, while under contract will have sealed that.
To many negative stories leaked in the press - and James, whilst unswervingly loyal, didn't always do her any favours! |

We do not know what the discussions were regarding Ola and the BBC regarding the Jump nor do we know what anyone's plans or medical conditions will be next year. Discussing whether Ola will be in it next year or not is futile. The majority thought she wouldn't be in it this year and that she had antagonised the BBC to the point of not being asked back. I wouldn't trust a thing the Mail say, I'll wait until next year.
As for a cruciate, the worrying thing is that this will really hurt her dancing future. Poor Ola. |

As for a cruciate, the worrying thing is that this will really hurt her dancing future. Poor Ola. If she really has torn her cruciate ligament she wont be in Strictly next year as I cant see her recovering in time. I just hope she is able to dance again in a few months with no long term effects. Second all this rubbish about a rival show - the Jump isn't a rival to Strictly and the BBC can hardly expect the dancers to not work from January until September - they can quite easily injure themselves dancing too or in loads of other activities. The facts aren't clear yet but it sounds like Ola was just doing some basic ski practice in preparation for next years Jump series - but she could just as easily be practicing for a ski holiday in Jan - I think its just a really unlucky accident. I hope she is on the show on Saturday though Steve will need to find a new partner to actually dance with as there is no way Ola will be dancing |

2 points - to some of the comments above - The concerning one first.

I just hope she is able to dance again in a few months She has 9 months or so to recover - and when I had my cruciate repaired in mid September, I was able to go on a skiing holiday at Christmas, and enjoy the blue and red runs with no problem at all then or since with the ligaments. I was also an active walker, and dancer, and was back doing those activities again pretty quickly - not to the same level as i was straight away, but certainly back up to full strength within a year. I have problems now - but that is due to arthritis in my knees - not the ligaments at all. Physio followed by gentle exercise and easing back into the activity was all it took. What there will be a problem with is the proposed tour she and James were planning next year - I doubt she would be able to do that so soon. Quote:

The pros all have a living to earn after all, and as has been repeatedly stated - their contracts are renewed (or not) on an annual basis - none of them are guaranteed a place in the show next year, and given the way some have not had contracts renewed, they would be fools if they turned down lucrative fees for appearing on other shows. I can't see there's anything wrong with taking part in The Jump that would affect her strictly contract - all the contestants on strictly take part alongside their day jobs so it would be weird to expect the dancers to be tied in to exclusive contracts. Hopefully she will benefit from being in great condition and she'll mend quickly and completely.

Not even with the chance of an severe injury...which sadly has happened. I think it was a really ill thought out idea for a woman who earns her living as a pro dancer

The BBC don't own her, so why shouldn't she do anything she likes outside of the show? She's hardly the first dancer to have to pull out of the show due to injury - these things can happen doing winter sports or during dance training or anywhere - it's just life!

I would have thought her insurance (and she must have a LOT) wouldn't permit her to do winter-sports.

If you have a contract that requires your work for the duration, ie for the semi final pro-dance and for the final, then I am sorry but it is really really stupid to take a risk like that. Yes, accidents happen and this was a totally avoidable one. What she does in her own time is her own business....AFTER SCD is over. She was still under contract and had an obligation to finish it.

But that kind of makes strictly like zero hours contracts - they can reduce you down to a very minor role at any moment with hardly any notice and reduce pay accordingly, but you still have to commit every moment of your life solely to strictly.
