Just stating fact: some runner-ups , or even did-not-reach-the-final contestants done better then winners.

No, you need Simon's backing.

Which is what Fleur East has.

A quite critically acclaimed album, the best selling song of the summer and she came sixth. Compare that to the glittering careers of most winners.

And lots didn't do better, it's nothing to do with winning and coming 2nd it's down to the material and marketing they are given after the show.

Why so gleeful about anticipating someone's failure? Comes across as a massive character flaw, that.

Am I missing something here? She's had one big single and one big album. Many other previous contestants have had this too, but then they slide down the SYCO slope of obscurity. Persoanlly, I think she's just Simon's current golden girl. Leona was once his godlen girl, as was Alexandra, as was Cher Lloyd who he had a huge soft spot for. At the moment it's Ella. The novelty will wear off though...he's already lining up Fleur to replace her.

I don't think it's about being a sore loser I think it's just obvious what is gonna happen in the long term

What, that in a year everyone will be like Fleur who?

Ella hasn't proved anything yet. She's had a monster single, but her trajectory looks to be following the usual Syco formula - that is to say a front-loaded campaign (throw money at Ryan Tedder for a big lead single to make a splash, diminishing returns on the follow ups as nothing else quite lives up to it).

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see her stuck in the same sort of stasis as Leona was down the line as they can't quite come up with the ideas to keep her momentum going.

How about just giving her a bit of credit for what she has achieved already instead of trying to put her down.

Well it could be - Ben, Fleur, Lauren etc who unless they have decent material, there is always room for more artists. All depends on the songs.

You mean in the same way you were bitching about Ben having his '15 minutes' and 'will be back to driving his van next year' yesterday because you were upset he beat your current poster-child?

Thanks for the advice, but I prefer not to be a hypocrite.

Ella isn't the only former contestant to have proven that you don't have to win to sell music after the show.
I would say 1D & Olly are currently the most consistant & successful.

To be honest no one from XF is ever going to have long term success, and i mean at least 10 years. It just is'nt going to happen regardless of how good they might be.

What's the % of artists that manage to remain relevant for 10 years out of the global pool?
1 hit wonders or 1 album wonders aren't only an X factor thing. Having a couple of albums & singles doing well is hard to achieve IMO. Let's not ask for very hard to reach standarts, it makes it seem like this show doesn't produce anyone who did decently in comparison to non-X Factor acts. I think it did.
