Ella Henderson has proved you don't have to win X Factor to be a big star

I think it's been proved before her.

Ella Henderson isn't exactly the best example of an act who didn't win making it big. One Direction win that one hands down, probably followed by Olly Murrs. Ella Henderson has had a couple of hits and so far that's it. If she's still around in a few years time then you can say she's done what they have and made it 'big' despite not winning.

There wont be anyone from XF around in a few years time. They are all short term acts.

One Direction have been around and doing well since 2011, that's 3 years, so I'd say they've managed. As has Leona since she's still going 8 years later. Ella Henderson in comparison hasn't even been around for a year yet.

But who are you comparing them to?
Let's take two big pop stars - Lady GaGa and Katy Perry. Leona's been around longer.

Why does it matter who is round for longest? Leona had more success in two years than most have had in 5,6 or 7 years.

Leona's worldwide success in 2007 and 2008 is more than most artists will experience in a lifetime in the industry.

Exactly. That's my point. So why are some posters saying "nobody will be around in 10 years time"?

Ella H has a good singing voice, i'd guess that stuck in the mind with the public even though she left early. Iv'e caught up with this Fleur and her voice is barely adequate...she'll struggle with that in the recording world - people don't listen to dance routines and all that staging shit

Because their favourite didn't win

Tbh, these days, very few acts last longer than 2-3 years. So anyone having short term success, releasing 2-3 albums and getting a couple of tours in isn't doing bad.

Someone like JLS got it spot on imo. They struck while the iron was hot, made money and success very quickly and then quit before they slid down too far

shame the only trace they left behind was like the sort of discoloured stain you get on a pavement when you sweep some dog pooh off

still they made some money and that's what it's all about. It's the dream that had since they were 3 seconds old if not earlier. They lived the dream and made some money while the iron was hot, and before it turned luke and the dream faded they got out and bought some cows.

It'll be interesting to see if One Direction will know when to quit- whenever that time may arise.
