He surely must have been saying that to create even more hype to try and get her to win. I mean, there have been some incredible final performances over the years, vocally outstanding ones.

Simon really is shameless with his hyperbole. I don't think he did Fleur any favours.

He did say performance and not vocal though. In my opinion that goes to Adam Lambert's A Change is Gonna Come on American Idol.

Scowell is obsessed with his own acts and that is why they are looked after and promoted to death above any winner. His ego will only allow for his acts to succeed. They are a reflection of him after all.

This year is interesting because his obsession with Fleur is overriding one of his own acts who won.

Liked her at the judges houses but then she consistently sang out off key for weeks. Simon may need a hearing test and a wake up call ... You're in your 50's and got a baby .....

They're all performances though. It's just different types. Some are vocal. They're all performances and it's obvious that by his comments he was trying to say Fleur's was the best final one on any of the shows he's done. It's a ridiculous thing to say and I can't believe he actually thinks that.

As soon as he said that, I knew you'd start a thread about it
I know you don't see it, but why is it so hard to genuinely believe that Simon really liked her? For me, she was the best contestant this show has had since Leona.

Well I suppose it's his opinion and we all have them

Can anyone name a better performance then? (not including duets)

Even Scowell's mega hyping of Fleur isn't stopping the decline in viewers.

As a man obsessed with sales figures he does appear to have a problem.

The irony is the over-hype is playing a big part in killing the show.

...it was one of the best performances in a final.

If performance means good dancing and barely audible karaoke over an overpowering backing track then yes it was outstanding.

I didn't think Fleur delivered in the final - she peaked with last week's amazing Uptown Funk - the repeat this week felt a bit tired. It's not really surprising, she isn't the strongest singer so it's understandable her voice would be feeling the strain. But I do think she was a worthy finalist, maybe winner, and think she will do very well for herself if managed correctly. Is Simon the person to do that? I'm not sure. I think she might be a bit too cool for Syco.

But I can't see Simon letting her go. He was even hyping her after the result as it felt very much like she had won and Ben was getting the "you're a great guy" pat on the back for finishing second. Ben is quite dull but I could see his win coming a mile off and I don't think Simon helped his favourite with the ridiculous praise. I think most of us came to enjoy her performances naturally and it didn't really need a boost from him, unlike the awful Stereo Kicks who also got the hype treatment to try to keep them in long enough to get on the tour.

it was best thing about the final...finally the show came alive.

He wanted her to win over Ben but had his speech planned in case it didn't happen. Him spurring her on or not she wasn't going to win he's had this down for weeks as per the voting figures.

Can i also say thank you ITV for having the decency to give us such figures unlike the BBC.

She should have done something new in the performance it was a repeat from last week

Saying it to get her to win? After seeing the how wide the gap was in the voting, I highly doubt it. Ben topped the vote from week four, Simon would've known Ben had this in the bag for a while. I think Simon's goal in the last couple of weeks was simply to get Fleur to the final two.

By last night, he really didn't care - he knew what the result was going to be so said what he wanted to without having to worry about the consequences.

She was the best thing about the final.

Everyone's obsession with vocal ability is quite mind numbing.
For example look at rihanna . She is a global superstar , Fleur beats her in singing and dancing hands down.

Fleur was never ever going to win against the white bland male . But she shbe victorious overall mark my words.

Sorry but your thought process is nothing anyone on here doesn't already know. It is how the Scowell Regime operates. The outcomes are always the same.

What has the colour of Ben's skin got to do with anything? I think the bland male was always going to win, well we've seen that from the voting, but the obsessive hyping of Fleur made that even more clear. Simon wanted her in the final two and got what he wanted. Call him bland by all means but don't bring race into it.

I think it's obvious cowell will make sure Fleur gets way more promo than the winner - Fleur is his new challenge so - god I hope Ben gets a good album
