I'll admit I wanted Fleur to win badly tonight. But a number of reasons why this song works so so well compared to other winner's singles.
1. Song choice. Some may say it's boring. But compared to other songs in the past, it's non-festive, not cheesy and lyrically, it doesn't say any cliches. It's a genuine, bonified well-writen pop song - not made for TV talent shows or for montages with OTT bland lyrics - it stands alone as a very decent pop song made for arenas.
2. Vocals. This weekend has hit me that Ben CAN be an artist. From his solo performance with 'Demons' by Imagine Dragons, to this song by OneRepublic, if he can write an album in this sort of stadium alt-pop style, he could do very very well in the charts.
3. Gospel choir is not over used at all.
4. NO KEY CHANGE. THANK GOD.
Well done Ben. Despite being a Fleur fan, I'll be buying this.
