For the past 3 years now the final has been made up purely of Overs and Boys!!

2012 - James Arthur & Jahmene Douglas (Boys) and Christopher Maloney (Overs)

2013 - Sam Bailey (Overs) and Nicholas McDonald & Luke Friend (Boys)

2014 - Ben Haenow & Fleur East (Overs) and Andrea Faustini (Boys)

Interesting, most judges seem to want the Girls or Boys category.....should really be the Boys or the Overs that the judges are fighting over!

Great observation. I don't know why Girls traditionally seem to struggle. Although for the best three years, none of the Girls were particularly amazing - yes Ella included.

I think girls will always struggle on the XF bar the very few that actually get to the final/win.

Girls/female contestants generally. Never been a final without a male act in the top 2. Plenty of finals where the top 2 are male v male (Leon/Rhy, Shayne/Andy Joe/Olly Jahmene/James. Even the first one from what i can recall the top 3 were Steve/G4/Journey South. Never been a female v female act final.

If Cheryl had put Kerrianne and Emily through instead of Steph and one trick pony Chloe, I think she might have had a winner.

I think (attractive) males are a bit more likely to get a 'fickle' vote from teens that doesn't necessarily turn into album sales after the show

Interesting! Also note that there's been a boy in the final every single year since 2005.
