Last Concert at Earls Court
I didn't realise Earls Court was being demolished.
It certainly has a a fantastic history, and one of the legends of the place made a guest appearance during the final show on Saturday night. David Gilmour joined Bombay Bicycle Club onstage, and sang Wish You Were Here. Great stuff.http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/1...in-four-years/ http://www.nme.com/news/bombay-bicycle-club/81729 |

Nor me, how didn't we hear about this?!
It's one of those venues that doesn't seem to be used much these days with the O2 etc. |

How can it be demolished? I thought it was a Grade I or II Listed Art Deco building?! I only went to one gig there - Prince in 1992. I went to the Ideal Home Exhibition there too though. My dad used to work at the exhibition every year back in the 70's and mum and I used to go and see him there. I remember him being in there the year an IRA bomb went off in the building! Scary time. Anyway, that building has so much history, I think it's awful they're destroying it!

Saw Oasis, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers there. Probably others I've forgotten about, plus an Olympic volleyball match and a fair promoting Scandinavian countries. In each case I found it a bit of a dump with basic facilities and acres of ugly bare concrete inside. I wish we had a really good large venue this side of town.

Yes, I was surprised when I heard that. It was a prominent venue for many years. It was regularly used up until the noughties or even after. Maybe the O2 arena has taken over.

I still can't get over the Docklands arena being demolished after only about 15 years. What a waste of money! I guess it was due to the O2 becoming an event venue, and Earls Court playing second fiddle to Wembley Arena

Saw Duran Duran there in April 1989, the one & only time I ever went. Travelled in from near Heathrow by car on a Saturday. Took about two & a half hours to get there and when we did I got motion sickness as we were on one of the sides and as everyone danced & stamped their feet you could feel the whole thing rocking from side to side. Vowed never to return & I didn't. Thankfully the 02 is a fabulous venue. |
